At the conclusion of the previous season of Mama June: Family Crisis, viewers learned of Anna Cardwell’s diagnosis with stage 4 adrenal carcinoma.

Now, in the midst of the new season, Anna is deeply entrenched in her treatments. This has her younger sister, Alana ‘Honey Boo Boo’ Thompson, contemplating whether she should pursue college in Colorado.

Meanwhile, Lauryn ‘Pumpkin’ Efird expresses concern about the welfare of Anna’s daughters, Kylee and Kaitlyn. Despite the challenges, Anna is surrounded by a strong support system, and the family comes together to celebrate her wedding to her longtime boyfriend, Eldridge Toney. However, in the upcoming episode, Anna finds herself receiving conflicting advice on how to proceed.

Pumpkin delivered poor dietary suggestions to her sister Anna “Chickadee” Cardwell amid her cancer battle, as seen in a teaser clip for the upcoming episode of Mama June: Family Crisis.

In the clip, Pumpkin pays a visit to Anna and their mother, June “Mama June” Shannon, to offer support. She brings along a pan of lasagna for Anna. During their conversation, Anna reveals to Pumpkin that she’s been experiencing some nausea but reassures her that the chemotherapy treatment is showing signs of progress.

“They say I don’t really have any more spots on my lungs. My kidney is a little swollen,” she continued. “The tumor on my kidneys has grown a little bit, but they said that could be cause it’s dying.”

High-fat, low-fibre diets may increase the risk of many cancers including bowel, lung, prostate and uterine cancers. Reducing alcohol intake and maintaining a healthy body weight may reduce symptoms associated many cancers.

June, 44, also mentioned that doctors advised Anna to “pay attention to her body and how she’s feeling.” The mother of two elaborated, emphasizing the importance of consuming more “greens and fruits,” while reducing sugar intake.

While Pumpkin argued that Anna should allow herself to “indulge,” June’s eldest daughter expressed her determination to do whatever it takes to ensure she is alive to witness her daughter Kaitlyn’s high school graduation in four years.

“I’ll be all right. We’re just going with the flow. That’s what we’re doing. We’re dealing with the cards we’ve been dealt,” she continued.

June appeared supportive of Anna’s attitude, though Pumpkin insisted that her sister needed to take her health battle more seriously. “We need to address all these things, you know what I’m saying,” she said. “There are many other aspects besides the cancer that need to be in order, but they’re not at all.”

Pumpkin expressed her dissatisfaction, stating that she “didn’t like” the lack of a clear plan or guidance from Anna’s doctors regarding what steps the family should take.

June then clarified that they had sought clarity from Anna’s doctors about her situation, but the medical professionals seemed to adopt a “wait and see” approach. “I understand. They’re doctors. But I’m also confused,” June added.

Anna appeared to reach her limit with the conversation, remarking that Pumpkin and June were giving her a “headache,” before leaving the discussion.

In a heart-wrenching revelation, the TV personality bravely shared her stage 4 adrenal carcinoma cancer diagnosis with the world in January 2023. However, tragically, the journey came to a somber end when June confirmed her passing in a poignant Instagram post on December 10, 2023.

“With a breaking heart, we are announcing that [Anna] is no longer with us,” June expressed. “She passed away in my home last night peacefully at 11:12 PM. She gave one hell of a fight for 10 months. She passed away with her family around her. We will be updating y’all with more information as we get it today. We love y’all and continue prayers and thoughts for our family during this difficult time.”

At the time of Anna’s passing, it was discovered that not all of her affairs were in order, including custody arrangements for her daughters. In December 2023, June was granted custody of Kaitlyn, 11, while Anna’s youngest daughter, Kylee, 8, is residing with her father and Anna’s ex-husband, Michael Cardwell.
