Tom Sandoval Dragged After Comparing Fallout from His Cheating Scandal to George Floyd’s Murder
Tom Sandoval faces backlash for drawing a comparison between the repercussions of his cheating scandal and the tragic murder of George Floyd.
Tom Sandoval, 40, engaged in a forthright dialogue with The New York Times Magazine for a piece that was released on Tuesday, February 20.
The interview delved into Sandoval’s reflections on the repercussions of his affair with Rachel Leviss and its seismic impact on the Bravo universe, along with his personal journey navigating the fallout. Notably, the discussion was punctuated by Sandoval’s frank remarks about the tumultuous past year.
It’s generally ill-advised for a reality TV star embroiled in a high-profile cheating scandal to draw comparisons to something as gravely serious as a man’s murder by police.Yet, the Vanderpump Rules star entangled in said scandal, made such a comparison in a profile published by The New York Times.
Inquiring about the explosive popularity of “Scandoval” that erupted in the final episodes of last season’s Bravo series, Sandoval said,
“I’m not a pop-culture historian really but I witnessed the O.J. Simpson thing and George Floyd and all these big things, which is really weird to compare this to that, I think, but do you think in a weird way it’s a little bit the same?”
But he didn’t stop there, “I feel like I got more hate than Danny Masterson,” Sandoval told the outlet. “And he’s a convicted rapist.”
Central to the uproar, Sandoval was discovered to have betrayed his then-partner, Ariana Madix, by engaging in an affair with one of her close friends, Rachel Leviss. This revelation surfaced during the broadcast of the Bravo show’s tenth season and continued to cause shockwaves through a series of reunion specials. Its repercussions are still being felt in the ongoing eleventh season.
Elsewhere in the interview, Sandoval said, “I did what I did because I was in an unhappy place in my life. I got caught up in my emotions and fully fell in love. Like, for real.”
To navigate the storm, Sandoval enlisted a new publicity team specializing in crisis public relations. Additionally, he is now represented by 23-year-old Rylie, who disclosed to the NYT that she has been a fan of Vanderpump Rules since her middle school days.
“Sometimes he says too much and the following day forgets what he says,” remarked Rylie, commenting on Sandoval’s controversial statements about Simpson, 76, who faced accusations and was subsequently acquitted in the murder cases of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ron Goldman.
Floyd’s death at the hands of former police officer Derek Chauvin during a 2020 arrest sparked global protests under the Black Lives Matter movement.
Vanderpump Rules fans are enraged over Sandoval’s interview — strongly criticizing his highly inflammatory remarks. One person tweeted, “When you think he can’t get any more ridiculous!! And yet people are still hating on Ariana…I don’t get it.”
Another shared, “Just because his affair was a hot topic doesn’t mean it’s the same or compares to what happened to George Floyd. It’s not the same thing.”
Someone else wrote, “FFS!!! Here we go again! The narcissist who just can’t stop! We don’t want to hear him boohooing when people come for him after this! Disgusting and shameful!!!”
“I thought I hated him when the show first started.. but that’s nothing compared to the utter disgust I feel towards him now .. he is such a ridiculous human. So cringey” Another fan commented.
A critic noted, “NO! He did not! You know he’s a couple minutes from me. I’d like to go over there and yell at him.”
An observer chimed in, “The more I process this quote the more egomanical it becomes. Its like he actually thinks america cared about his little TV affair on THAT level. The OJ level. The Floyd level. Dude…”
