Mama June: Family Crisis: Pumpkin Worries Alana Might End Up as a Teen Mom
Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson graduated from high school on Friday’s episode of Mama June: Family Crisis, but a family debate over college put a damper on the celebration.
The teen expressed frustration over her desire to make her own decisions about her future amid pressure from her family, after opening a gift.
“Here we go again with the Colorado stuff,” Alana said, after opening a college-themed T-shirt. “Everybody’s stressing about where I want to go, and at the end of the day, it’s my decision.”
Alana had yet to make a decision, but her sister, Lauryn “Pumpkin” Efird didn’t hold back her opinion, commenting— “We want you to do better than we’ve done.”
June backed Alana when she chimed in — “I say if she wants to stay here it doesn’t matter.”
June revealed that she didn’t believe that Alana was keen on going away to college, but had been trying to please her older sister. She added that her daughter was concerned about receiving “backlash” from Pumpkin if she ultimately decided to skip the traditional college experience.
“I really want what’s best for Alana, and her getting up out of here and exploring a new whole life in a new different state with a new different slate is going to be so much better than staying here and becoming a teen mom lie I did, Mama did, Anna did,” Pumpkin told cameras. “It’s just a family thing. Like, I don’t know. Just get out of here.”
Alana eventually stormed away from her own graduation celebration, declaring that she was headed to another grad bash to escape the stressful family drama.
Both June, 44, and Pumpkin, 24, Alana’s legal guardian, proudly supported the teenager on her big day while reflecting back on their shared family memories.
“I’ve had to be her mom, I’ve had to be her sister, I’ve had to be her mentor,” Pumpkin said. “We’ve shared a lot of memories together, and she was the cutest kid.”
The episode featured a montage of Alana’s most memorable moments over the years, as the “Toddlers and Tiaras” alum prepared for her graduation ceremony. Her family members and boyfriend, Dralin Carswell, all rocked matching T-shirts to the event and cheered when the proud high school senior took the stage.
“Watching Alana walk across the stage is a major accomplishment,” June said. “There’s been times I know she could have just gave up, but she decided to say, ‘Hell no, I’m not giving up, I’m going to do this.’ And like, that’s a huge accomplishment — not just for her, but for everybody else who looks up to her.”
Alana gave herself a high-five, declaring — “I’ve literally been going at this for 13 years, so I am proud of myself ‚ like, ‘Dang, I really graduated.'”
Mama June: Family Crisis airs on Fridays, at 9 pm ET, on WE tv.
