Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson Reconsiders Attending College Because of Boyfriend Dralin’s Legal Issues

Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson is facing a period of significant decision-making about her future, especially concerning her living arrangements post-high school amidst the legal issues surrounding her boyfriend, Dralin Carswell.

In a teaser for the season 7 premiere of Mama June: Family Crisis, the 18-year-old reality TV star disclosed that her graduation day didn’t bring the joy she anticipated.

When Dralin, 22, inquired about her lack of enthusiasm for the graduation, Alana mentioned that her life was filled with complexities and voiced her frustrations over her sister Lauryn “Pumpkin” Efird’s insistence on her making a swift decision regarding her college plans.

“I’m like, ‘I don’t know yet,’” Alana explained. “I know I graduate today, but give me some time to figure it out.”

Alana expressed a desire to relocate to Colorado but was hesitant to proceed without Dralin. She highlighted the uncertainty surrounding Dralin’s ability to move to Colorado with her. Dralin, not wanting to be a hindrance, voiced his concerns, while Alana shared her reluctance to embark on such a transition alone.

 “I wanna go to Colorado with you, but I don’t know if I can leave the state.” Alana countered with the real implications of their situation, “If you can’t figure this out, what’s gonna happen with us, you know? Like, we can’t even be together if you in a whole other state.” Dralin expressed to Alana in a candid moment.

Alana also mentioned Dralin was adding to her stress during a challenging time as her older sister, Anna “Chickadee” Cardwell, was battling cancer. She confessed, “This is too much, you know. I just don’t feel like it seems like a good time to leave right now,” underscoring the complexities she was grappling with amidst family health concerns.

Anna “Chickadee” Cardwell tragically passed away in December 2023 at 29 years old after her battle with cancer.

Dralin’s legal troubles have cast uncertainty over the couple’s future. In February 2023, he was apprehended for driving under the influence during a high-speed chase with the police, as confirmed by In Touch at that time.

After spending two days in Monroe County jail, Dralin was released on a $25,000 bond. His charges included following too closely, failure to maintain lane, driving under the influence of marijuana, driving with a suspended license, speeding, and fleeing and attempting to evade police, as reported by the Money County Sheriff’s office.

The unfolding of Alana and Dralin’s decision-making process will be a focal point in the upcoming season of “Mama June: Family Crisis.” However, in July 2023, the “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” alum announced their decision to move to Colorado, where she plans to pursue a nursing degree at Regis University.

“I’ll be moving off campus for security reasons and because Dralin is coming with me,” she explained at the time. “I think he’s more excited to move there than me. He’s ready to move out of our small town and experience something new too.”

Alana continued, “I think [living together will] be good for us honestly and I mean, I think it will be fun. Even though I’m moving halfway across the country, it’ll be good for me.”
