Travis Kelce Attends Patrick Mahomes’ Dinner Party Right After Kansas City Parade Fatal Shooting
Several Kansas City Chiefs players, including Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce, gathered for a scheduled private dinner after a fatal shooting occurred during their Super Bowl 2024 victory parade.
The quarterback planned the event at Kansas City eatery, Granfalloon Restaurant, shortly after the team won the Super Bowl on Sunday, per TMZ.
Mahomes reportedly rented out the restaurant and recruited police to deal with potential crowd control issues. Kelce was snapped taking a selfie with local cops outside the restaurant ahead of the get-together. The restaurant owner stayed tight-lipped about the private event but did confirm that a “few” Chiefs players attended the dinner.
The team gathering came only hours after the group celebrated their big win by attending their Super Bowl parade. One person was killed and at least 22 injured after shots were fired into the crowd at Union Station, on Wednesday. Nearly one million people were estimated to have been in the crowd when pandemonium broke out at the historic depot.
Kansas City area DJ and mother of two, Lisa Lopez-Galvan, died after being shot during the parade, as revealed on Facebook by her employer, KKFI radio 90.1 FM.
Kansas City Police Chief, Stacey Graves, later reported that half of the injured victims were under the age of 16. Authorities confirmed that three people were detained after the mass shooting, including one person who was filmed being tackled by a heroic bystander.
Longtime Chiefs fan, Janelle Duncan, spoke to NBC about the chaos.
“We just heard a bunch of popping noises … and people started scurrying around,” Duncan said. “Some people were yelling, ‘Duck,’ and, ‘Run, there’s a shooter!’”
“Someone was yelling that a lady got shot. And then another guy was yelling, ‘Come on you guys, it’s fireworks. False alarm.’ We were just trying to get out of there as quickly as possible, but everybody was running in different directions,” Duncan told the news outlet, via a phone interview.
“Nobody could move more than a few inches at a time,” she continued. “There was a big tall fence and everybody pushed and pushed until they could knock the fence partway down and then we all climbed up it.”
Police recovered several firearms and later released one of the detainees after determining that the individual was not involved in the shooting. Authorities later stated that they didn’t believe that the motive was terrorism, but the result of a “dispute between several people.”
Mahomes, 28, took to X to ask for prayers for Kansas City and Kelce, 34, wrote that the tragedy had left him “heartbroken.” Mahomes’ wife, Brittany Mahomes, commented that she was “highly embarrassed and disappointed” by the horrific shooting.
