Good News! Julie Chrisley To Be Released from Prison Next Year

Julie Chrisley may be released from prison ahead of schedule as the former reality star looks forward to a potential re-sentencing.

Julie and her imprisoned husband, Todd Chrisley’s lawyer, Alex Little, gave an update on Julie’s case during a Tuesday appearance on the couple’s daughter, Savannah Chrisley’s podcast.

A fan asked if the jailed spouses could be potentially released early, as their case is set to be appealed in March. Little said that there was a “slim chance” that the duo would be released after opening arguments, as he shared his hope that they would be granted bail.

The attorney said that Julie’s case presented “a different situation,” due to “errors” made during her original sentencing. He explained that Julie can  expect to be resentenced even if the couple loses their appeal.

“If she is re-sentenced in the summer or the fall of next year, I think her sentence should be substantially reduced,” he added during Tuesday’s episode of “Unlocked.”

Little went on to say that Julie could be home “sometime next year,” if she was handed a three-year sentence.

“That’s not out of the question,” he said. “And I think the hard part when you talk to clients and talk to families about things like that is, that is an option on a spectrum of options. And so you don’t want to give people false hope. You want to be realistic, that is certainly an option.”

He also asserted that the First Step Act would apply to Julie and affect her resentencing. The criminal justice reform bill, which was signed into law in 2018, reduces sentences and promotes the rehabilitation of convicted prisoners.

“Again, we don’t know whether the judge would actually apply it in a way to reduce her sentence,” he noted. “We think it should if the judge would have followed the guidelines. And that could happen, you know, this year, early next year.”

In June 2022, the “Chrisley Knows Best” couple was found guilty of 12 counts of tax evasion, bank and wire fraud, and conspiracy. The reality TV couple was sentenced to a combined 19 years in prison. Todd received 12 years and Julie was sentenced to 7 years behind bars. The duo was indicted in August 2019 for allegedly submitting fraudulent bank records to secure more than $30 million in loans.

In September, news broke that Julie’s sentence had been cut by 14 months, and Todd’s time by almost two years.

Todd and Julie have not communicated since the pair checked into separate prisons in January 2023, per a Radar Online source.

While the Federal Bureau of Prisons states that married couples are allowed to share monitored phone conversations, an insider claimed that Todd’s prison warden had refused to allow the calls between the husband and wife. The tipster claimed that the denial was in  “retaliation” for Todd and Savannah speaking out about the unacceptable living conditions inside the prison.
