‘Teen Mom 2’ Alum Kailyn Lowry Reveals Pics of Her Newborn Twins
Kailyn Lowry shared the first photo of her newborn twins after giving birth to a son and a daughter five weeks early. The Teen Mom 2 alum revealed the image in a preview of Friday’s episode of her podcast, “Barely Famous.”
The former MTV star shared the first snap of her sixth and seventh child at the start of the teaser. The image revealed Kailyn holding the swaddled babies, who were connected to individual incubators, while sitting in a chair.
Kailyn, who welcomed the twins with boyfriend, Elijah Scott, revealed that the babies spent several weeks in the NICU after they were born, via a cesarean section, five weeks ahead of her due date. Kailyn also shares an older son, Rio, 1, with Scott.
“It was really scary because … we had experienced the NICU for a few days [with Rio] and he was big. He was 9 pounds, so that was different for us and got to go home shortly after,” the 31-year-old said.
She continued — “But for the twins, we were five weeks early and there were two of them. I didn’t get to hold them until the next day or 48 hours [later].”
Kailyn shared that she felt upset when doctors did not offer clarity regarding the infants’ health issues.
She explained— “I wanted to know if what I was seeing was normal.”
“I had never seen a baby in my life not wake up to eat or show signs of hunger,” she said of her newborn daughter.
Kailyn continued — “She never had any feeding cues and when I tried to feed her, she wouldn’t take a bottle. And that was really difficult because I’m looking at him, and [while] he’s in the NICU for some of the same reasons, but also he’s taking a bottle and he’s having no issue with that.”
“I cried a lot. I probably cried more with the NICU journey than the C-section stuff,” she added.
Kailyn revealed that she and Scott were able to bring their son home before their daughter.
The ex reality star explained — “I think that there’s a big difference between the twins in terms of, because she was in the NICU by herself for so long, for so many weeks, and he was home.”
“She’s more OK by herself … whereas we were home with him and someone was always with him, holding him and all of that. Now that she’s home, I feel like my bonding experience [with her] has been so much better.”
Kailyn and Scott explained that the situation was logistically and emotionally difficult.
“We had to travel back and forth, at least once a day, one of us,” Scott recalled.
“It was an hour drive there and back and when I was there, I was there for hours,” Kailyn added. “And then we have six other kids. When he was discharged from the NICU, we had him at home.”
She shared that she was asked if she needed psychological help, during one of her visits with her daughter.
“I said I have my own therapist, but I’m away from my infant, and my infant is away from her twin. And I feel like that in and of itself was enough for me to cry,” Kailyn said.
Kailyn, who had her tubes tied after the birth, shares son Isaac, 14, with ex, Jo Rivera, Lincoln, 10, with ex-husband, Javi Marroquin, sons, Lux, 6, and Creed, 3, with ex, Chris Lopez, in addition to her three children with Scott.
Kailyn made her reality TV debut on “16 and Pregnant” in 2010, and went on to star in spinoff series, “Teen Mom 2,” for several seasons. She left the long-running MTV show in 2022.
