‘Basketball Wives’ Convict Brittish Williams Goes on the Run After Failing to Surrender to Prison!
Basketball Wives alum, Brittish Williams, did not check into prison on her ordered surrender date. On January 3, Williams asked the court to cut her sentence from 4 years to 2.6 years only hours before her scheduled surrender, according to records obtained by Radar Online.
A federal judge had previously granted the embattled reality star’s request to push back her original check-in date of December 11. Williams begged a judge for the postponement to allow her to spend Christmas with her 5-year-old daughter.
In October, Williams was sentenced to 4 years behind bars on charges of tax fraud, bank fraud and insurance fraud. She was also ordered to pay $564,069.13 in restitution in addition to her four-year prison sentence.
The high profile case was investigated by the Internal Revenue Service, the Social Security Administration and the FBI.
The 33-year-old pled guilty to a total of 15 felonies, five counts of Social Security number misuse, four counts of bank fraud, three counts of wire fraud, and three counts of making false statements to the IRS. The former reality star will be on supervised release for five years after serving out her sentence.
Williams accused the judge of slamming her with a harsh sentence because of her celebrity status. She filed an appeal and was allowed to spend Christmas with her daughter.
On January 2, Williams asked the court to reduce her sentence from 48 months to 32 months, claiming in a motion that her sentence was not accurately calculated. She asked the court to postpone her surrender date two days later, after failing to turn herself in at Alderson FPC on January 3. Williams stated that she was “unable to report as ordered.” She asked that the court postpone her check-in date until a judge made a decision on her motion requesting a shorter sentence. She pointed out that the delay would allow her to attend court in Missouri without having to be transported from the West Virginia prison.
Prosecutors opposed the reduced sentence, arguing—“even if Williams did qualify for a potential reduction, the Government would oppose relief because she failed to report to the Bureau of Prisons as directed and she already received a more than generous disposition by way of the dismissal of counts carrying six years of consecutive mandatory minimums at the time of the original sentencing.”
Court records revealed that Williams was arrested on January 12. The details of the arrest remain unclear, but she is not a current Alderson facility inmate, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
Williams’ lawyer filed a motion to continue a bond revocation hearing, on January 16.
