’90 Day Fiance’ Fans Drag Jasmine Pineda for Abandoning Her Special Needs Son in Panama to Chase Gino!
90 Day Fiancé star Jasmine Pineda revealed that she was afraid to have children with Gino Palazzolo, as she opened up about raising a son with special needs on Sunday’s episode.
The 36-year-old explained that coping with her youngest child’s diagnosis was a difficult ordeal, during an emotional conversation with her future husband.
“You picture your son or your daughter, like, ‘Oh, I’ll do this, I’ll do that,’ and then, reality is different,” she told her fiancé. “What if we have a kid and he’s also special needs?”
She shared more about her youngest son, JC, and the child’s challenges in a confessional spot.
“It’s very hard for him to communicate, he doesn’t have a verbal language,” Jasmine explained. “But what makes it difficult to have a child with special needs is not the child. It’s the people. It’s very hard, it’s not easy.”
The Panama native went on to express concern over bringing her boys, JC and his older brother, Juance, to the United States, because people had been “very mean” and intolerant in the past.
“I’m glad that sometimes my son doesn’t realize what’s going on but me as a mom, I do,” Jasmine tearfully explained. “If we go to a restaurant and he’s not behaving as a neurotypical kid, you have the stares, you have the ugly looks. You have, even the staff from the restaurant, you know? And it hurts me a lot. I don’t know if I will have the strength to go through this.”
Jasmine later asked Gino how he would feel if she could not give him a “neurotypical” child. She noted that the risk “scares her to death.”
Gino replied — “He’s still a human being and we’re going to take care of him, right? Can’t predict it … it’s not your fault.”
Gino told cameras — “I just want to assure her that, you know, whatever happens with us in regards to having children, whether we have a child or not, I will always be there for her, no matter what, and I’m not going to abandon her.”
The emotional exchange ended on a high note, with Jasmine telling the Michigan native—“And my children are lucky to have you too and if we ever have a baby, he or she’s gonna be very lucky to have you as a dad.”
Jasmine shares her two sons, who are only occasionally mentioned on the show, with an unidentified ex-husband. Juance made his debut earlier this season, after his mother’s K-1 visa was approved.
Jasmine explained that she and Gino planned to bring her boys to the states “as soon as possible.” She clarified that while her ex had agreed to the plan, she was concerned about telling her sons.
“You’ll stay here in Panama with Dad, your aunt, your grandma, until I figure everything out?” Jasmine told Juance at the time. “The house where we’ll live, the school where you are going to study, because that’s the plan that I told you, remember?”
Juance confirmed that he was on board with the move, but would miss his mom in the meantime.
Jasmine was hit with backlash on X after fans learned of her son’s condition. Viewers blasted the TLC star for choosing to move to the United States for Gino, rather than remain with her disabled child.
One fan wrote — “Jasmine really left her son with autism in a whole other country. Smh that’s crazy.”
Another chimed in — “You don’t leave your non-verbal, special needs child in another country.”
A third added — “How In the hell is geno going to be a father figure when the kids had been left behind by a dead beat mother.”
One fan surmised — “Fam jasmine left her special needs [kid in Panama] to do all this televised crying? That’s some cold business.”
90 Day Fiancé airs on Sundays, at 8 pm ET, on TLC.
