Mama June Sobs Over Chickadee’s Cancer Diagnosis in New ‘Family Crisis’ Trailer

The upcoming season of Mama June: Family Crisis will feature the last months of Anna “Chickadee” Cardwell’s life. The new season of the WeTV series premieres next month.  

Anna allowed cameras to chronicle her health crisis as filming season began, in February. The 29-year-old was diagnosed with stage 4 adrenal carcinoma, last January. Production wrapped in November, shortly before Anna passed away, on December 9. 

Anna’s mother, Mama June Shannon, becomes emotional about her daughter’s rocky future in the first released preview of the season. 

June says in the trailer — “I can’t say if my daughter is going to be here in five years because I don’t know.”

Anna’s husband, Eldridge Toney, recently spoke to People about his late  wife’s decision to film her difficult ordeal. 

He told the outlet — “She wanted to bring awareness to her rare type of cancer because there is still so much unknown about it and it is very rare.”

Members of the show’s production crew reportedly attended the young mom’s funeral on December 13, but cameras did not capture the sad event.

Anna first appeared alongside her family in TLC’s “Toddlers and Tiaras” and “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.” Anna’s youngest sister, Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson, honored her sibling on Instagram shortly after her death. 

“Anna was in so much pain last night but now as a family we all know she is at peace now,” the 18-year-old captioned her post. “I really don’t know what to say as my heart is completely broken. Watching my 29-year-old sister this last year battle this horrible disease hasn’t been easy. Anna was a fighter & still is. Lord please wrap your arms around her 2 babies & our family as the next couple of days will make this all a reality 🥹.” 

She continued — “I’m so glad that you waited til I was home to take your last breath. I would’ve loved for you to get to see me graduate college but I know you will forever cheer me on in heaven! We will all make sure your legacy lives on forever. And I promise to always make sure to celebrate our birthday like you never left! The sky looks a little bit different today. We will always love you Anna 💔. You hit me hard with his one Anna but I know your in a better place now and pain free forever!”

June, 44, broke the heartbreaking news to the world in her own Instagram post.

She wrote alongside a family photograph—“With the breaking heart, we are announcing that @annamarie35 is no longer with us. She passed away in my home last night peacefully at 11:12 PM.”

She continued—“She gave one hell of a fight for 10 months she passed away with her family around her like she won’t and we will will be updating y’all with more information as we get it today.”

“We love y’all and continued prayers and thoughts for our family doing this difficult time.”

June’s 23-year-old daughter, Lauryn “Pumpkin” Efird, echoed her mom’s sentiment, adding—“Say a prayer for our family.”

Mama June: Family Crisis premieres on February 9, on WeTV.
