He experienced a difficult childhood and was emancipated from his parents at the age of 13. He hitchhiked to Florida, where he worked as a street vendor before touring with a carnival as a barker.

Williams launched his comedy career after moving to Los Angeles in 1999. He performed in clubs such as The Improv and Ice House. He got his break in “Friday After Next,” which opened the door to bigger opportunities.

His first comedy special, “Let a Playa Play,” aired in 2006, followed by HBO special, “The Pimp Chronicles Part 1.” He went on to star in multiple film and TV projects and appeared in Netflix comedy special, “World War lll.”

Williams hit back at Rickey Smiley’s past claim that he was supposed to star as Money Mike, Williams’ role in “Friday After Next,” during an appearance on the “Club Shay Shay” podcast.

Smiley played Santa Clause in the flick.

Williams began — “This man told you he had Katt Williams’ role. He was going to be Money Mike, and Katt Williams was going to be the Santa Claus.”

“We auditioned in Los Angeles. I was audition No. 201. Two-hundred Black comedians auditioned for the role of Money Mike with me. You’re saying all 201 of us was auditioning, and you had already had the role and had already shot the role in four days?”

Williams stipulated that in all projects going forward, he would only work alongside Smiley if Smiley’s role required him to wear a dress.

In their next film together, “First Sunday,” Smiley donned a dress.

He explained — “Now, what was Rickey Smiley’s next movie? Was it ‘First Sunday’? Did he wear a dress in it? You bet he did. It’s in my contract.”

“That’s where he’s a believable actor. Him and Tyler Perry can’t play a man to save their life. They play good women.”

Williams likened Smiley, Steve Harvey, and Cedric the Entertainer’s tight knit group to a clique, later in the podcast.

“For 30 years, they’re a group. These aren’t three random guys,” he said. “All of these dudes are co-entwined and they share secrets, and this is the age of truth.”

He also accused Cedric of ripping off his “best joke,” and Harvey of stealing the concept of the “The Steve Harvey Show” from comedian, Mark Curry.

Shocked listeners took to social media to applaud Williams for his candor, with one person writing — “I like how Shannon allowed him to speak his mind. Outstanding content! Katt spoke with conviction!”
