Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist, from the first-ever season of The Golden Bachelor, have officially become husband and wife in a spectacular live televised ceremony. The event took place at the La Quinta Resort and Club in California, with fan-favorite Susan Noles officiating the nuptials.
Theresa Nist, 70, looked breathtaking in her Badgley Mischka gown as she was escorted down the aisle by her son, Tom. The ceremony was filled with heartfelt moments, starting with Susan Noles’ opening words. “I can’t even tell you how excited I am right now and so grateful to welcome you all here to celebrate this love that these two have found,” she expressed. Susan humorously referred to herself as the shy, quiet one from the show, despite her outgoing personality. She talked about fate bringing the couple together on “The Golden Bachelor” and the hope their love story has given many people.
Before the vows, Gerry’s daughters, Angie and Jenny spoke about their happiness for their father and Theresa. Similarly, Theresa’s daughter Jen expressed her joy, telling Gerry, “Okay, take good care of my best friend since birth,” and advising her mother to put Gerry first.
Theresa, holding back tears, reminisced about their first encounter and how Gerry’s kindness, honor, and integrity made her fall in love with him. She recalled their challenges, including a near-death experience, and professed her commitment to be Gerry’s support in all circumstances.
Gerry, in his vows, reflected on their journey together, from the first chocolate shake to the latest Costa Rican coffee. He praised Theresa’s strength and shared how she made him a better person. “I promise to choose you, every day, as the one I love, and never take your heart for granted,” he vowed, humorously promising to keep track of her reading glasses and shoes.
Their grandson, Henry, as the ring bearer, presented the rings, leading to an intimate exchange of vows and a heartfelt kiss.
The bridal party included Theresa’s daughter Jen as the maid of honor, her daughter-in-law Amanda, Gerry’s daughters Angie and Jenny as bridesmaids, and his granddaughters Payton and Charlee as junior bridesmaids. Gerry’s son-in-law Rob served as the best man, and Theresa’s grandsons Dempsey, Leo, Brandon, Brody, and Braxton were junior groomsmen.
The wedding was attended by several former Golden Bachelor contestants and Bachelor Nation favorites, including Trista and Ryan Sutter, Ben Higgins, and Wells Adams, among others.
The couple’s reception was a joyous affair, with a bouquet toss caught by Joan Vassos, Anna Zalk, and Kathy Swarts, and dancing to Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’.” Reflecting on their love and the urgency of time in their 70s, Gerry shared, “I’m 100% certain I found the right girl for me. So it’s like, why not?” Theresa echoed his sentiments, overwhelmed by the dream wedding they received.
The Golden Wedding was aired live on ABC and will be available for streaming on Hulu.
