Sister Wives: Janelle Brown Frustrated Christine Suggested She Played a Role In Her Divorce From Kody

In the unfolding narrative of the Sister Wives family, Janelle Brown has been vocal about her split from Kody Brown, contrasting with Christine Brown’s perspective on her own departure from the polygamous arrangement.

Janelle, 54, ended her marriage with Kody in 2022 and has openly discussed her reasons for leaving and her determination not to return to her former life with him.

During the Sister Wives Talk Back special, Janelle addressed claims made by Christine regarding her role in Janelle’s divorce from Kody. Christine had suggested that she encouraged Janelle to leave Kody, reflecting on her own empowerment after ending her relationship with him. Christine said, “From the day that I asked him to not stay there anymore, I took my life back and I got it back and I became stronger that day. I’m not saying that Janelle has to follow the same path and she has [a] way different situation than mine, but she needs to know it is OK on the other side.”

Janelle, however, expressed frustration with Christine’s implication that she required encouragement to leave Kody. She refuted the idea that she needed assurance that it would be okay, stating, “I need to be shown that it’s OK — and that’s just bulls — because I have left. I have three children that still live in Flagstaff. So why would I not stay here? I like Flagstaff. I have three kids here.” Janelle also clarified that the complexity of their scattered assets was a factor in her decision not to move away from Flagstaff and emphasized that her single status should not be interpreted as being stuck with Kody.

Janelle and Kody, who married in a spiritual ceremony in 1993 as the second wife in the polygamous family, share six children. Janelle discussed Kody’s behavior in their marriage, indicating a problematic pattern. She remarked, “Kody has this thing where he’s like, ‘I’ve done so much and I’ve sacrificed so much for this relationship.’ Well, that right there is a red flag. If he feels like he had to sacrifice for the relationship, maybe it’s better if it’s over because it’s a two-part equation in a marriage.” She also regretted not pursuing further education and not setting healthier boundaries within the family.

During an episode of Sister Wives, Kody attempted to reconcile with Janelle on a birthday date, but Janelle was not interested in reigniting their romance. She expressed in a confessional, “I just don’t think there’s much path forward for Kody and I. We just are different people now. He thinks differently.” An attempt by Kody to kiss Janelle was met with rejection.

Regarding Kody and Christine’s relationship, Kody hopes that Christine’s new marriage to David Wooley will put an end to their conflicts. He expressed his wish on the Sister Wives: One-on-One special, hoping Christine would focus on her new husband rather than criticize Kody. Kody met Wooley briefly, finding the interaction mild and leaving with a neutral impression.

Christine Brown

Christine, who was the first to leave the plural marriage in 2021, had previously cited Kody’s favoritism towards Robyn Brown as a reason for her departure. However, her new monogamous marriage has given her fresh insights. She reflected, “I was standing in my kitchen, and I thought, this is how Kody feels about Robyn. How I feel about David is how Kody and Robyn feel about each other.”
