Teddi Mellencamp’s Cancer Spreads, Forced to Undergo Extensive Surgery
Teddi Mellencamp is on the mend after undergoing an extensive surgery to remove her skin cancer. The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum updated her Instagram followers Wednesday after enduring a “wide excision melanoma,” which involved a “soft tissue defect reconstruction with adjacent tissue rearrangement.”
Teddi explained that her surgeon “cut out” a wide area of her shoulder and “replaced it with a flap of skin” from her lower back. The 42-year-old added that the “pain and discomfort are all worth it.”
Teddi thanked her supporters for their well wishes and reminded fans and followers to keep up with their skin checks.
She said — “I promise you do not want to go through this.”
The “Two Ts in a Pod” podcaster posted a photo of herself in a hospital bed, as well as an image of her upper back before the surgery and a video captured right after the procedure.
“It’s pretty painful, but I’m so grateful that they did such a great job,” she said in the video, which revealed bandages behind her neck and shoulders.
Teddi added — “My back skin’s tight. Struggle bus. But I’m hoping they got it all.”
The former Bravo star filmed the update as she snacked on a cracker while “waiting to be discharged to the nursing facility.”
Last week, the mom of three revealed that a nearly three-month topical cream immunotherapy treatment had not been successful.
She shared — “After surgery, when god willing my margins are clear, we will continue to monitor my body closely every 3 months.”
Teddi has endured several procedures to remove multiple melanomas and lymph nodes since announcing her initial stage 2 melanoma diagnosis, in October 2022.
“Despite my anxiety, I listened to the doctors and went in for my 3-month skin check last week since my previous melanoma. They said I had another abnormal spot near my last one so they did a biopsy. I got the call this morning: Stage 2 melanoma,” she said, at the time.
The accountability coach went on to say that the melanoma diagnosis had served as a wake up call.
She urged her followers — “and I hope to all of you, to love and protect the skin you’re in.”
In January, she shared that doctors had discovered new spots that required biopsies. Her update came one month after she was declared cancer-free. In September, Teddi underwent another surgery, telling fans—“I can’t even remember if this is the 12th or 13th [melanoma].”
