1000-Lb. Sisters: Amy Slaton Reveals Michael Feared Being Left Alone With Their Kids
Amy Slaton claims that her ex-husband, Michael Halterman, demanded that she not go anywhere without their children because he feared being left alone with his own children.
In a preview clip of 1000-Lb. Sisters season 5, Amy Slaton admits that she’s “exhausted all the time” while caring for her young sons, Gage, 3 and 17-month-old Glenn, in a clip posted on TLC’s Instagram page.
“I’m trying to take care of two boys and take care of the house, take care of mom. It’s just a lot,” she tells her sisters after deciding to hire a nanny. “And I was good before Glenn was born. Like, I had it under control.”
Amanda Halterman reminds Amy that she’s not alone and that Michael is “perfectly capable of taking care of these kids for you to have a moment.” Amanda then calls Michael to assist in recording a video that will ask questions to nanny candidates.
“You gotta do something because I need some help,” Amy tells her husband. “I cannot keep going like this.”
Amanda tells Michael that Amy had been struggling to take care of their home and herself while caring for their children. She pushes Michael to pitch in even if a nanny is hired.
Amy points out that a nanny will be “somebody to take care” of the kids so she can seek therapy to cope with her depression.
She claims — “I’m not allowed to go anywhere without my kids is what he told me.”
“Michael does not want to watch both of the kids at the same time when he’s alone, so I always have to bring at least one kid,” Amy tells cameras. “I don’t know if it’s because he don’t want to watch them by himself or it’s because he can’t watch them by himself and play a video game at the same time.”
Fans of the show sounded off after TLC posted the teaser, blasting Michael for not participating in the raising of his children.
One fan wrote — “Michael needs to step it up!”
Another said — “Michael just looks lazy as hell. I literally don’t expect anything more of him.”
Michael, 40, and Amy, 37, met in high school and eloped in 2017. The pair held a wedding ceremony in 2019 that was featured on the popular reality series.
Court documents confirmed that Michael filed for dissolution of marriage on March 13. A source told The U.S. Sun that the pair had been secretly arguing for months. A 1000-Lb. Sisters insider told the outlet that Amy wanted her boys to continue to appear on the show, but Michael was against it.
“Michael doesn’t want the kids to be on the show, but Amy disagrees,” the source said.
Amy and the boys reportedly moved out of the marital home and in with her sister, Tammy Slaton, prior to Michael’s filing.
“Amy says Michael is lazy and has been jealous of her attention toward the kids,” a source told The Sun in late February. “They’ve been having trouble since last year.”
The divorce was finalized on September 6. Amy and Michael share custody of their sons.
