‘Sister Wives: One-on-One’ Kody Brown Accuses Christine of Maligning His Character to Garner Sympathy from David Woolley

Kody Brown believes that his ex, Christine Brown, had to cut him down in the eyes of her future husband, David Woolley, in order to move on from her spiritual marriage. 

Kody spouts his theory in a sneak peek preview of Sunday’s “Sister Wives: One on One” special.   

“Here’s the thing. For David’s sake, David Woolley’s sake, Christine has to destroy my character or David doesn’t feel like he can marry her, ’cause she left a good man,” the TLC patriarch asserts. “I’m not a bad guy. Christine and I were just not in a good marriage.”

Host, Sukanya Krishnan, shoots down Kody’s theory in light of her own conversation with David. 

“He just kind of feels like, ‘You know what? A marriage didn’t work out,'” she explains. “‘Yeah, there’s a divorce that took place, and now I’m meeting this woman where she is right now.’”

Kody explains that he “vetted” his fourth wife, Robyn Brown, with much stricter standards. 

“I vetted Robyn hard because I had to know that she didn’t leave a good man before I was going to marry her and take a chance with that,” he says.

Krishnan suggests the possibility that Kody is “still a good man even though Christine left.”

Kody declares — “She needs to stop telling my children I’m not then. I’m not going to let that go, ever, until those kids come to me.”

Kody is happy to hear that David “doesn’t think ill” of him, clarifying—”I don’t even know David. I hope Christine is choosing well. I’m hoping she’s chosen well. I hope that she’s very happy. I’m not judging him, but my life has been public for years.”

Kody and Christine announced that they were parting ways in November 2021 after a 25-year marriage. The mom of six went public with her new relationship in February, got engaged in April, and wed in October. 

Kody’s first and second wives, Meri and Janelle Brown, both left the plural marriage within 14 months of Christine’s exit. Kody remains married to his fourth wife, Robyn. 

David shares his first impression of Kody in the preview, pointing out that Christine’s ex “wears his emotions on his sleeve a lot.”

He continues — “But that’s him and that’s who he is. I can’t say anything differently. Would I be like that? No. You know, it’s just, he wants you to hear him.”

David is asked if he feels empathy for Kody amid his struggle to manage his large brood. 

David replies that he “can to a certain point, because it can get overwhelming with a lot of people.”
