‘Sister Wives: One-on-One’ Kody Brown Confesses Robyn is His True ‘Love’ and He Forced Himself to Love the Other Wives
Kody revealed that Robyn Brown was the only wife that captured his heart, during Sunday’s “Sister Wives: One on One” special.
“I fell in love with Robyn, I never fell in love with anybody else,” Kody confessed. “I was just choosing to be in that covenant of love with them.”
Kody shared that his relationship with his fourth wife was “different” from the connections he shared Meri, Janelle and Christine, because he approached the three marriages with another goal in mind.
“This isn’t about being like, ‘in love,’ this is about growing a family together, we love each other, we’re required,” the 54-year-old continued. “The gospel requires us to love each other, but I never really actually suffered in a fit a passion in this place.”
Kody explained that while he didn’t choose his future life partners based on compatibility, he would approach the relationships differently today.
“The blame lay on one thing and one thing only, if you’re gonna marry for eternity, you should start out in love. I thought it was acceptable, I thought I could make up the difference,” the father of 18 said.
Janelle shared she was only in love with the “idea” of being married to Kody on their wedding day.
“It was a very functional marriage, but now he’s grown and changed and I’ve grown and changed,” she continued, adding that the TLC patriarch wasn’t the “guy he is now.”
She added — “I think maybe he does have more affinity or more connection with Robyn and that’s OK.”
Christine, 51, was the first to announce her split from Kody, in November 2021. Janelle, 54, followed suit, a year later. Meri, 52, and Kody confirmed that they had officially parted ways in January.
Janelle and Christine candidly addressed Kody’s favored relationship with Robyn as Season 18 chronicled the breakups. They both admitted that Kody’s favoritism led to tensions in both of their relationships with his fourth wife.
Robyn fired back amid the controversy last season, telling cameras—“You know, this isn’t a new complaint, that Kody favors me,” Robyn said in a September 2022 episode. “I’m not getting some preferential treatment, even though that’s what they think.”
Janelle and Christine remain close in the wake of the family implosion, but no longer share relationships with Meri or Robyn.
“I’ll continue to be amiable when we’re together,” Christine recently clarified to Us Weekly. “I have kids that have a good relationship with Robyn, and that’s great. But no, [I do] not personally [talk to her].”
Janelle added — “I adore [Robyn’s] children. I do hope that at some point in the future, the children can be more reconciled with all of their parents. That’s what I hope for. But time will tell, and time is a healer, so we’ll see.”
The Sister Wives: One on One special continues Sunday at 10 pm ET on TLC.
