Sister Wives: Kody Brown is ‘Willing to Fake Being in Love’ With Meri Brown to Save Reality TV Show

Kody Brown cuts to the chase about his dead-end relationship with Meri Brown in the upcoming episode of Sister Wives. Kody, 54, reluctantly declares that he’s willing to “fake” a love relationship with his first wife, in a sneak peek preview from this Sunday’s episode.

“I’m willing to fake being in love with Meri. Doing my duties as a husband. Sort of putting up with things that frustrate me so deeply that I struggle to be around her,” Kody says in the clip. “If I need to for the sake of, whatever, I don’t know. I can fake through this.”

Kody tells cameras — “I don’t want to. But if you’re going to insist, then I will. She’s like, ‘I don’t want that.’”

Meri, who legally wed the patriarch in 1990, points out that Kody had checked out of their relationship years ago.

“Why is he saying he’s willing to keep acting when he clearly hasn’t been for eight or 10 years?” Meri asks in the preview. “Also, I wouldn’t want him to do that. I’ve wanted to heal our relationship and even create a new relationship, but I’ve never insisted on it.”

Kody and Meri divorced in 2014, which allowed Kody to legally wed his fourth wife, Robyn Brown, and adopt her three children from her first marriage. Kody and Meri’s marriage shifted to a solely spiritual union until they announced their decision to part ways, in January.

Kody, Robyn, and Meri discuss officially ending their plural marriage in the upcoming episode. Robyn insists that Kody still considers himself married to her only remaining sister wife, but Meri believes that Robyn just isn’t facing the hard facts.

“This is the agreement you required of me in order to get married,” Kody says while eyeing Robyn, as the trio discussed his broken relationship with his first wife. “This agreement that I gave you, our sacred covenant, was if I’m ever not in love with you, I won’t just sit there and be in a pathetic place with you.”

Robyn, 45, breaks down in tears, supposedly because she feels desperate to keep their family together, following Christine and Janelle’s departures.

Christine, 51, announced that she was splitting from Kody in November 2021 and Janelle, 54, followed in her footsteps a year later, declaring that she and Kody had been “separated for several months.”

“It’s not fair to either of us. It’s not fair for mer to be alone like I have been for years. It’s not fair for him to feel like he has to do a duty,” Meri tells Robyn.

She goes on to admit that “it’s not what I want.”

Kody agrees — “It’s not what I wanted either.”

Sister Wives airs on Sundays, at 10 pm ET, on TLC.
