‘Sister Wives’ Kody Brown Claims He Was ‘Forced’ Into Polygamy

Kody Brown admitted that he had “forced” the ideology surrounding polygamy without really considering if the lifestyle was the best “fit” for him, during Sunday’s episode of Sister Wives.

“I’ve spent most of my life as this polygamist trying to constantly fit square pegs into round holes,” he told his friend, Brian, during a conversation aired  on the most recent episode. “I’ve forced things to fit rather than going, ‘is this a fit?’ I’ve had to learn through my experiences in plural marriage that the square peg is not a good idea to pound into the round hole.”

The TLC patriarch also noted that he did not “feel like a polygamist anymore,” during Sunday’s episode. Kody and third wife, Christine Brown, announced their split in November 2021 and Janelle and Meri Brown followed suit, a year later. He is now living a monogamous lifestyle with his last wife standing, Robyn Brown. Kody shares 18 children across the four relationships.

“It’s been 10 months since I’ve been to Janelle’s house,” Kody revealed in a confessional spot. “I don’t even know what’s going on hardly half the time with Meri’s life. Now, I’ve got all this time that Robyn and I, we’ve got sort of this special life together. I mean, it’s been a challenge in one way, But you know what? I do have some time to spend with my friends.”

Janelle Brown

Janelle spoke about the pair’s ongoing breakup, as she contemplated her new life as a single woman.

“I have a very busy life,” she told Christine during a road trip featured on the episode. “I love going to bed at night and reading my book and turning out the light when I want to turn it out. The dogs are on the bed with me because he never could stand that. I get to do my thing, you know?”

Season 18 of the TLC series has focused on the family fallout following  Christine’s departure, and the turmoil that led to Meri and Janelle’s subsequent exits from the plural marriage.

Meri Brown

In August, Kody addressed the breakdown of his unconventional family in an interview with People.

“It’s been painful, a lot of finger pointing and blame,” the 54-year-old said. “But you have to hope we still have a friendship in the future. Because we’re bound forever through our kids.”

“I could have done a lot better,” he admitted.
