Monica Garcia Sues Heather Gay Over ‘Botched’ Plastic Surgery
Monica Garcia’s most intense conflict from Real Housewives of Salt Lake City isn’t with her fellow cast members on-screen, but rather with Heather Gay and her business, Beauty Lab, in a legal setting.
Court documents obtained by All About The Tea, reveal an ongoing dispute between Heather’s business, Beauty Lab and Laser LLC, and Monica. This legal tangle started back in August 2023, predating the current season’s first episode.
The case stems from a 2019 agreement where Monica was to receive $2,449 worth of “cosmetic injections” from Beauty Lab. According to the lawsuit from Beauty Lab’s legal team, Monica made an initial payment of $449 and agreed to subsequent monthly installments of $200 for ten months. Beauty Lab contends that Monica has defaulted on these payments following her initial contribution.
Beauty Lab’s claim suggests that the spa has endured “significant losses and damages,” due to Monica’s alleged non-payment and is seeking compensation exceeding $2,000, as well as coverage for legal fees and other related costs.
Monica’s entry into RHOSLC came just weeks after this lawsuit was filed. Following the season’s launch, Monica’s legal representatives counteracted with a lawsuit of their own in September.
In the counterclaim, Monica’s attorneys assert that no further payments were made because the injections she received were improperly administered, failing to produce the promised results. Monica maintains that an understanding was reached verbally where she compensated another professional to rectify the damages caused by Beauty Lab’s staff, negating any additional payment to Beauty Lab.
Her legal team argues that Beauty Lab’s services were subpar, not meeting industry standards nor fulfilling the promised care, thereby entitling Monica to withhold further payment. They add that Beauty Lab’s attempt to rectify the botched procedures does not absolve it from the alleged damages incurred by Monica.
The counterclaim further accuses Beauty Lab of not performing the cosmetic procedures competently, suggesting that the services rendered by Beauty Lab were substandard, which resulted in Monica seeking corrective treatment elsewhere, at a higher cost than Beauty Lab’s original claim.
An amendment to the initial counterclaim was made post-BravoCon, substituting a negligence claim with Breach of Independent Duty of Care. Additionally, the counterclaim includes allegations of breach of contract and bad faith by Beauty Lab.
Monica’s lawyers allege that Beauty Lab’s complaint stems from Heather’s personal grudge against Monica — not from any legitimate legal standpoint. They are seeking damages for the alleged harm caused by Beauty Lab’s negligence and breaches, with an amount to be determined at trial but not exceeding $50,000, on top of attorney fees and other costs.
Before the legal issues were publicly known, Monica spoke at BravoCon, hinting at strained relationships with the cast, particularly highlighting the evolving dynamics of the season.
Despite the off-screen legal drama, Monica’s on-air confrontations have so far been predominantly with Lisa Barlow, including a notable altercation in the November 8th episode.
