Janelle Brown Explains Why She Spent Her Birthday With Kody Despite Their Spilt
Janelle Brown prepares to spend her birthday with her estranged spiritual husband, Kody Brown, on Sunday’s episode of Sister Wives.
The 54-year-old explains why she chose to spend her special day with Kody amid the pair’s separation, in a sneak peek preview of the Sunday night’s episode.
“You know, before Kody and I had our big fight, we had reached a point where we weren’t connected and I was very frustrated with him that he wasn’t making an effort to see [daughter] Savanah,” she says. “But, on a very superficial level, Kody and I can go and hang out and we can have a great time if I just compartmentalize and put away all the other stuff. So when he called them like, ‘Yeah, hey, it’s better than staying home and watching TV.’”
Kody’s ex third wife, Christine Brown, shares her surprise over Janelle’s decision to celebrate her birthday with Kody, commenting — “I think they’re an interesting place. A really interesting place in the relationship.”
“She also loves him, still wants to be with him as far as I know. I know things are hard,” Christine Brown adds. “I don’t know if Kody’s worked things out with her kids and I think that most of our kids are pretty frustrated with him right now.”
Janelle reveals her own doubts over making it work with Kody, telling cameras — “At this point, I really don’t foresee Kody and I working our relationship out. I have to always be open to the possibility that we will somehow be struck by lightning and that it will all be happily ever after,” she shares. “But I’m also a realist and I know that it doesn’t look good.”
Christine reflects back on a conversation she shared with Janelle’s daughter, Maddie Brown Brush, reiterating that she will support her friend no matter what she decides.
“I told Maddie, I’m like, ‘Look, your mom just needs to be happy. Just whatever can make your mom happy that’s what I’m gonna support you’re doing,” she explains. “If she wants to stay, I’m gonna totally support her staying in Flagstaff. I’ll support her staying with Kody, whatever she wants to do I’m going to support. No problem.”
Janelle admits that a recent interaction with Kody led to the pair’s “worst fight” ever, but remains positive about their decision to spend her birthday together.
“I don’t want any fighting,” she says. “I just want to be easy and have fun and celebrate the day.”
Janelle confessed that she was struggling with the idea of making the separation permanent during a conversation with Christine, featured on last week’s episode.
Christine expressed doubt that Janelle was truly ready to leave the relationship for good.
“I don’t think she’s done yet,” Christine said. “She still has affection for him. And she’s just separated, very separated.”
Janelle told cameras — “I think Christine has felt like I was getting the raw end of this deal for a long time. And she took action and now she feels like maybe I deserve something better.”
Janelle later noted — “He wants a wife who’s all partnering with him and not independent and, and I’m like that will never be me. He’s really advocating patriarchy and I’m not that person.”
Sister Wives airs Sundays at 10 pm ET on TLC.
