‘Sister Wives’ Recap: Janelle’s Done With Kody, But He’s BEGGING For Another Shot!

On the Sunday, October 8th episode of Sister Wives, Kody celebrates Janelle’s birthday and hints at a fresh start. Meanwhile, Meri tells Kody she’s relocating her clothing business to Utah without ending their relationship, but his response is more negative than anticipated.

Kody Doesn’t Care What Meri Does

The episode kicks off with Kody and Robyn Brown, having a sit-down with Meri Brown to hash out her current living situation. Meri reveals she’s taken residence at her bed and breakfast establishment in Utah, leaving Kody taken aback by the unexpected living arrangement.

Meri Brown

Kody’s not sure why I would use one of the rooms that we would rent out. Why does he care?” Meri asks in a confessional. “I mean, he hasn’t cared what room I sleep in for the last decade, so I don’t know why he’d care now.”

Meri Brown

During the conversation, Meri expressed uncertainty about her property in Flagstaff, Arizona. “I don’t want to live there,” she confessed, adding, “I don’t want it to be my house.”

Meri assured Kody that relocating does not signify her “walking away,” from their spiritual union. Her confession about the “anxiety” she felt regarding her business left both Kody and Robyn at a loss for words.

“I was really just kind of hoping that he would care a little bit more,” Meri explains in a confessional. “There wasn’t really anything specific I wanted him to say or do. I just wanted him to have an air of caring, and that just was not there.”

Meri continued, “Like, conversations like this basically just tell me, ‘Go ahead, Meri, and just live your life on your own like you’ve been doing.’ Because nothing else is gonna change.”

Seeing Meri overwhelmed by her emotions, Robyn stepped in, trying to help her express her intentions. Yet, this intervention made Kody uneasy, as he confessed Robyn’s participation gave him pause.

“What I’m seeing here is Robyn being an advocate of me and Meri and our reconciliation … and they’re making me feel very uncomfortable,” the Brown patriarch told the cameras. “I got one wife that I’ve got a great relationship with and I’m afraid if I abandon these women, that she’ll lose respect for me.”

Robyn highlighted Meri’s worry, pointing out that Meri feared Kody might misinterpret her move to Utah as her stepping away from her commitment to him and the family, when in fact, her relocation was strictly for business reasons.

Meri clarifies that she plans to move into a room at her bed and breakfast in Utah. “Kody’s not sure why I would use one of the rooms that we would rent out. Why does he care?” Meri says, “I mean, he hasn’t cared what room I sleep in for the last decade, so I don’t know why he’d care now.”

Meri expresses that after the family relocated from Utah to Las Vegas almost ten years ago, she had no intentions of returning. “I don’t want to live there. I don’t want it to be my house,” she elaborated. “I don’t want you to think that I’m walking away. Because, sorry, I still have hope.”

Kody remains unaffected and struggles to understand why Meri would want to split her time between residences in Utah and Flagstaff, especially when neither he nor Robyn see any purpose in her doing so.

“I was really just kind of hoping that he would care a little bit more,” Meri told the cameras. “There wasn’t really anything specific I wanted him to say or do. I just wanted him to have an air of caring, and that just was not there. Conversations like this basically just tell me, ‘Go ahead, Meri, and just live your life on your own like you’ve been doing.’ Because nothing else is gonna change.”

Kody Brown

In his own confessional, Kody stated, “What I’m seeing here is Robyn advocating for the reconciliation between Meri and me in our marriage, and it’s making me feel very uncomfortable.”

Kody believes Meri doesn’t know what she wants to do, so he comes up with a seemingly bright idea. He proposes constructing a barndominium on Coyote Pass, with Meri residing in its loft, alongside all his stored junk. However, Meri feels deeply slighted by Kody’s suggestion of her living in what seems like a storage space filled with his discarded items.

In essence, Kody couldn’t care less about Meri’s living arrangements and might even prefer her departure, allowing him and Robyn the freedom to express their affection without feeling uncomfortable.

Garrison Buys A House

Garrison has purchased his very own home in Flagstaff (20 minutes from Kody), and is considering having his siblings, Gwen and Gabriel, move in with him as roommates. Gwen, Gabriel, Janelle and Christine Brown come over to tour his new place. Once they gather in the living room, the conversation shifts to family holidays and how the family dynamics have changed since Christine relocated to Utah. They unanimously decide that they’ll be celebrating future holidays separate from Kody, Robyn, and Meri, especially given that Kody neglected to connect with some of Janelle’s and Christine’s children during the past Christmas.

Kody Takes Janelle On a Date

Kody Brown could be in for a long wait if he’s expecting affection from his distant wife, Janelle. Even as he treats Janelle to a birthday date in the upcoming episode of Sister Wives, it becomes apparent that he might not grasp the depth of the rift in their relationship, at least from Janelle’s perspective.

Janelle Brown

When Kody takes Janelle out to Arizona’s most upscale restaurant (surprisingly, a departure from the usual Mexican joint the family frequents this season), Janelle’s demeanor remains cordial. Yet, underneath her politeness, there’s a clear indication that she views their marriage as a closed chapter.

“I just don’t think there’s much path forward for Kody and I. We just are different people now,” Janelle explains. “He thinks differently. He’s very, very wrapped up with the children at Robyn’s house. Robyn and he think a lot alike. They want to live the same kind of life. And I’m really looking for a relationship where I’m equally considered.”

Janelle Brown

While Kody openly confesses his longing during the date, even pondering the possibility of a goodnight kiss, the atmosphere suggests he might be left waiting and wanting.

“At one point I slipped my hand into his out of habit, and I thought, ‘This feels really weird,’ and I took my hand back out of his hand,” Janelle shares. “It just didn’t feel right anymore.”

Kody Brown

Kody finds himself utterly perplexed by Janelle’s apparent disinterest in reigniting the spark in their relationship.

“I don’t know why we can’t reconcile,” he says. “So we had a bad fight. We’ve had worse. So we’re separated. We’ve had other separations.”

Janelle Brown

Janelle holds her ground in a talking head confessional, asserting, “You know, there just isn’t anything there anymore. There just isn’t. Our relationship has been unraveling for years.”

Sister Wives airs on Sundays, at 10 pm EDT, on TLC.
