Bethenny Frankel Criticizes Joe Jonas’ Handling of Divorce with Sophie Turner, Says It’s ‘Backfiring’
Bethenny Frankel is weighing in on Joe Jonas’ split from actress, Sophie Turner. The Real Housewives of New York alum took to TikTok Wednesday to blast Jonas for supposedly “spinning,” the pair’s divorce.
“It seems like his team decided to … kill or be killed,” she said on the platform Wednesday. “His PR team definitely said, ‘We know this is coming, and we’ve got to spin this thing. We’ve got to go and try to control the ocean.”
The former Bravo star continued — “You cannot mess around with the media. The media is the ocean. It will just take you over like a big wave. You can’t try to mess around with the ocean.”
Bethenny, 52, went on to allege that the strategy was “backfiring,” pointing to negative feedback over reports of Turner’s partying habits and the incriminating Ring camera footage that circulated online.
“Do not underestimate the intelligence and instincts of women,” the businesswoman said. “It sounds like a camp started camping too soon.”
Jonas and the 27-year-old actress’ plan to divorce was confirmed by Page Six, over the weekend. The musician filed for divorce in Miami two days later, stating that his 4-year marriage was “irretrievably broken.”
An insider told the outlet that the decision was a “last resort” move for the Jonas Brothers frontman.
“He never wanted to break up his family,” the insider alleged. “An unhappy home isn’t a home, and the truth is that he and Sophie were going through it this year.”
Turner’s partying factored into Jonas’ decision, per a report by TMZ. Photos of the “Game of Thrones” alum downing shots at a bar went viral days before news of the split broke. Herzog Stephenson, manager of DropShot, told the Daily Mail Thursday that Turner seemed “happy and relaxed” during her night out.
“It was obvious when I was with Sophie that she wanted to return to her days of partying,” he alleged. “I sensed that she was missing those times.”
The estranged couple’s two young daughters have been living with their father, according to a People report. Jonas is seeking “shared parental responsibility” with his soon-to-be ex.
Jonas, 34, has been traveling with his brothers, Nick and Kevin, for the group’s Five Albums, One Night tour. Jonas was photographed, minus his wedding ring, eating out with his children on Wednesday. Turner is reportedly in England, filming a new project.
Fans have used social media to defend Turner as a working mother, amid the controversy.
One fan wrote on Twitter — “It’s wrong to shame a woman and try to paint her as a bad mother for simply having a career.”
Another user said — “Seems like bare minimum that he should be watching the kids while she’s working.”
Jonas and Turner tied the knot in May 2019. They welcomed their daughters in July 2020 and July 2022.
