Big Brother’s Jared Fields CAUGHT On Live Feeds Betraying His Own Mother and Using A ‘Slur,’ Fans Want Him Removed
Jared Fields stirred up Big Brother controversy after he called his housemate and gameplay target, America Lopez, the R-word.
The 25 year old, who is the current Head of Household, was hashing out strategies with his allies during the September 1 episode when he made the offensive remark. Jared was trying to explain that it would hurt his game if America won the Power of Veto, which would protect her from eviction, when he called his housemate the R-word.
Big Brother fans were infuriated by Jared’s offensive comment, and many viewers took to social media to call for CBS to take action and remove him from the game. Production has yet to address the incident. The next episode is set to air on September 23.
Jared later told Cory Wurtenberger, who is in a romantic relationship with America, that he regretted his remark.
“I don’t think she’s the R-word. I slipped up,” Jared said on a Pluto TV live feed on Saturday, September 2, as shared on social media. “Obviously, I was angry about it [and] I’m willing to admit that.”
This isn’t the first time that Big Brother has been hit with controversy. Viewers have slammed the competitive reality show over the years for incidents involving racism and discrimination. Aaryn Gries referred to Asian people as “squinty-eyed” and called her black roommate, Candice Stewart, “Aunt Jemima,” during the 2013 season.
CBS producers set a precedent earlier this season when they tossed Luke Valentine from the house after he was caught using the N-word during a conversation with Cory, Jared and Hisam Goueli, on August 9. The network removed him from the group even though Jared, the only black man in the game, told Luke that he didn’t care about the racial slur.
“Luke violated the BIG BROTHER code of conduct and there is zero tolerance in the house for using a racial slur,” the network and producers told Us Weekly, via an August statement. “He has been removed from the house. His departure will be addressed in Thursday night’s show.”
“I never heard it,” Hisam clarified to Us Weekly, last month. “If I had heard the word, I would’ve responded. I am not complicit in racism, in any stretch of the imagination. I was just literally trying to get to the shower. I mean, honestly, I was holding the door for Cory so that we could go to the shower. And I was wondering what was taking so long actually.”
The show’s live feeds often tip off fans when a contestant leaves the house ahead of the news hitting the press.
Luke addressed his early dismissal on Instagram Live, last month.
“I’m not upset at the production. Their hands were tied. They had to make a sacrifice,” he said. “I understand why. It is upsetting. I think they made the wrong decision. I think a slap on the wrist would have been a much better thing.”
