Erica Mena FIRED From ‘Love & Hip Hop Atlanta’ After Dropping NASTY Racist Slur on Spice
Erica Mena has been fired from Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta, effective immediately, after she made racially insensitive remarks towards her co-star, Spice, in a recent episode of the MTV reality series.
A formal announcement regarding Erica Mena’s exit from the show was posted on the official Love & Hip Hop Instagram and Twitter profiles.
“The Love & Hip Hop franchise has never shied away from hard conversations in our community. Working hand-in-hand without partners, viewers will see the impact of Erica Mena’s remarks play out in the final three episodes of the season,” the statement read. “Effective immediately, she will not appear in the next season of Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta.”
The scene took place in a restaurant with the two ladies, and Shekinah acting as the mediator. The situation escalated from a strained discussion to an outright physical altercation after Spice alleged that Erica’s son hated his mother.
The disagreement rapidly intensified, leading Erica to overturn a table. Disturbingly, she referred to Spice as a “monkey” and exclaimed that she ‘should have died’ during a recent hospitalization.
The startling incident prompted a strong reaction from viewers, many of whom took to social media demanding Erica’s dismissal. The incident was labeled by many as not only a display of racism but also an example of colorism, given that Erica is a lighter-skinned Afro-Latina and Spice is a darker-skinned Black Jamaican woman. This prompted a fervent social media campaign against the Puerto Rican native and the broadcasting network.
One person wrote, “@VH1, if you support diversity and inclusion, Erica Mena’s behavior on the show is unacceptable. She needs to be held accountable. Fire Erica Mena”
Another person commented, “I can’t believe what I just saw on LHHATL. Erica’s comments towards Spice were disgusting and not what I watch the show for. MTV do the right thing.”
Someone else shared, “Racial slurs are never okay. No matter the situation. Erica’s behavior on the latest episode was uncalled for. She should be removed from the show.”
“Just saw the clip of Erica and Spice. Absolutely disgusted by Erica’s remarks. This is not the representation we need on TV. VH1, it’s time to reconsider her place on the show,” A viewer noted.
A fan mentioned, “The fact that Erica felt comfortable saying that on national television is mind-boggling. She needs to go. We need positive representation, not hate.”
A spectator shared, “Spice deserves respect and so do all the viewers. What Erica said is inexcusable and she shouldn’t have a platform on LHHATL anymore.”
“Disappointed but not surprised by Erica’s behavior. It’s 2023 and yet we still witness such blatant racism on TV. VH1, show us you care about your audience by taking action.” Another onlooker highlighted.
The root of the tension between the two women seems to be linked to Erica Mena and Safaree Samuels’ divorce.
This incident added to an already tumultuous month for Erica Mena. Channel 2 Action News reported that she was detained on Friday in relation to a separate, more recent altercation.
Viewers of Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta expressed outrage when Erica Mena used a derogatory racial term against her co-star, Spice.
Following her widely discussed altercation with Erica Mena on a recent episode of Love & Hip-Hop Atlanta, Spice remains centered and is concentrating on creating long-lasting wealth for future generations.
