Terry and Heather Dubrow Legally Change Transgender Child’s Name and Gender
Real Housewives of Orange County couple, Dr. Terry and Heather Dubrow, have petitioned the court to allow their 12-year-old transgender son to legally change his name.
Court documents obtained by Radar Online revealed that Heather and Terry filed a request to change the gender on their daughter’s birth certificate, in November 2022.
The reality star and the plastic surgeon asked for a “decree recognizing the minor’s gender” to be changed from female to male, requesting that the child’s name be changed from Collette Kennedy to Ace Dubrow.
In January, a judge stated that there were no objections to the couple’s petition during a hearing held in Orange County Superior Court. He granted their request and ordered that a new birth certificate be issued to their youngest child.
The Bravo star revealed that her daughter had come out as transgender, in March.
Heather Dubrow wrote, via Instagram — “It’s International sons day! We love you, our youngest son, Ace. Our job as parents is to give our kids a safe and supportive environment so they can grow up as healthy, happy, confident, independent humans. Since Ace is a 12-year-old child, with a long life ahead of him – we will let him tell his own story someday if he chooses to do so. All we can say is Ace, we love you so much and we are proud to be your parents. Your brother and sisters love and support you too.”
Heather Dubrow received lots of fan support, but some accused the actress of using her child to generate a storyline for the upcoming RHOC season.
Heather defended herself at the time, writing — “I saw [people commenting that] talking about my son was [a way] to remain relevant or to create a storyline on a show.”
She reiterated — “Neither of these things are true. They are the farthest thing from the truth.”
In February 2022, Heather and Terry’s daughter, Kat, came out as a lesbian. Her news came a year after the couple’s oldest daughter, Max, came out as bisexual.
Heather told People at the time — “We’ve got four kids, they are different genders, different sexualities, and all at interesting places in their lives, figuring out who they are and where they belong as human.”
The reality star also tweeted — “SO PROUD OF MY KIDS!”
Heather Dubrow spoke out on Instagram, writing — “It’s really important that we provide an environment of unconditional love and acceptance for our children and let them know that humans come in all different colors, genders, sexualities.”
She added—”Once we start appreciating this and practicing inclusion, love and acceptance, the better off we will all be. We hope that by sharing our story we are starting conversations in other homes and hopefully helping people.”
The Real Housewives of Orange County” airs on Wednesdays at 9 pm ET on Bravo.
