Whoopi Goldberg Reveals Big Career Move Amid ‘The View’ Break
In a surprising twist during her hiatus from The View, the iconic Whoopi Goldberg has just dropped some major career news that’s got everyone buzzing.
Whoopi Goldberg will be honored with an American Icon award from New York’s Fashion Group International, this October. The fall gala will take place at the The Plaza Hotel in Midtown Manhattan.
The View moderator will be honored during “FGI Night of Stars,” an annual fundraiser held to recognize accomplishments of “outstanding individuals” in multiple categories. The daytime host will appear at the event alongside the other honorees. Marc Anthony, musician and co-founder of Maestro Cares Foundation, will be given the Humanitarian Award.
The event is open to the public but tickets are extremely expensive. The tickets start at $2k and a table host will have to fork over $30k for ten guests.
Whoopi Goldberg and the rest of The View cast are currently on hiatus ahead of the kickoff of Season 27, on September 5. The show released a promo for the upcoming season which confirmed the returning members of the daytime panel. The clip featured the ladies describing the upcoming season in three words each.
The women jokingly guessed what subjects the show would tackle in the upcoming season, but Whoopi was nowhere to be seen. Ana Navarro asked “Is Whoopi around?” as the video winded down, prompting her co-star to peek out from behind some equipment.
“I’m here,” the actress announced. “Catch you all next season. Keep the conversation going!”
Fans were chattering about Whoopi’s teased absence from the group before the clip confirmed her return. Ana posted the clip on Instagram and viewers took to the post’s comment section to share their reactions.
One user wrote — “I got scared for a moment cause I didn’t see Whoopi. She is a must on the View. Love you Whoopi.”
Another added — “Don’t scare me like that Ms. Whoopi.”
One fan wrote — “Whoopi you scared the crap out of me when I didn’t see you until the end. Come on girlfriend don’t do that.”
Another chimed in — “Cannnot waittt! And you know we were all on edge thinking Whoopi wasn’t coming back. Well played. Favorite cast ever, and I’ve been watching forever.”
Earlier this month, longtime “The View” host, Joy Behar, landed in controversy after Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi alleged that she had been mistreated by the outspoken panelist. The entire “Jersey Shore” cast was asked to dish which Hollywood stars had mistreated them over the years, during an August 3 appearance on “Watch What Happens Live.”
Polizzi, 35, didn’t hold back, immediately responding “Joy Behar!”
She continued — “Joy was so mean to me. She cornered me in the bathroom and said, ‘You’re not Italian!’ I said, ‘OK, ma’am.’”
