NeNe Leakes Believes Kandi Burruss Is USELESS On ‘RHOA’ Amid Ratings Slump!
NeNe Leakes Believes Kandi Burruss Is USELESS On ‘RHOA’ Amid Ratings Slump!
NeNe Leakes recently sat down with former Real Housewives of Atlanta producer, Carlos King, and had some choice words to say about RHOA veteran, Kandi Burruss.
The former reality diva shared her thoughts about the current cast and called out Kandi for not bringing the heat on the Bravo series.
King and NeNe agreed that the show would benefit from a serious cast shakeup before NeNe ripped into Kandi. King asked NeNe if she believed that Kandi was “overrated and overpaid,” and the RHOA OG cosigned before shading the singer/songwriter’s star power.
“I think that Kandi is not exciting,” she said. “I just don’t think the camera loves her. I think the camera loves her family, but I don’t think they love her.”
NeNe Leakes, who admitted that she hadn’t watched Season 15, clarified that she and Kandi had settled their issues stemming from their time together on the show.
NeNe asserted — “As much as they want to make Kandi the star, and she’s been there for 100 years, and she is her. I don’t think not one person tunes in and believes that.”
King later asked the ex reality star to rank various “Housewife” personalities as “stars” or “starless.” NeNe took another jab at Kandi when her name popped up.
“I’ve never seen Kandi as a star,” she noted. “I’ve seen Kandi as a supporting star but not as the star.”
NeNe Leakes, who made her exit from the series after Season 12, also spoke about her own personal experience on the show. King, who produced the show’s first season, referred to NeNe as the “anchor” of the series.
NeNe shared that she believed that the show’s format shifted during and after Season 4, when Phaedra Parks and Kenya Moore joined the cast. She suggested that fake relationships, romances and storylines became the norm after Kenya Moore came on the scene.
“When me, Lisa [Wu Hartwell], DeShawn [Snow] and Shereé, all of us started, they were our real husbands, our real boyfriends,” NeNe pointed out. “Shereé was really married to Bob [Whitfield] and they were really going through a divorce. DeShawn was really married to Eric [Snow], and they started to have their issues. Lisa was really with Ed Hartwell. I was really with Greg. Kim was really with Big Papa. Our stories were real. Everything we talked about and did was real. When we had disagreements they were real. We didn’t pretend we had a boyfriend and we didn’t have one.”
She clarified that she didn’t blame the ladies for the change, just that the transition occurred after they joined the group.
She also claimed that she and Kandi Burruss saved Porsha Williams, who was on the brink of her divorce from NFL player, Kordell Stewart, from being axed from the cast after Season 5. King confirmed that Porsha was “100% percent on the chopping block.”
“Kandi and I, I can’t remember if it was anyone else, but I know it was Kandi and I, we called and talked to production and the network about keeping Porsha because Porsha was going through a divorce and we were like, ‘You guys can’t get rid of her right now,” NeNe shared. “She really needs this show. Just let her stay and see how it works. We went to full-on bat for Porsha, and Porsha stayed on the show. You know, sometimes people forget who goes to bat for them, honey.”
The Real Housewives of Atlanta airs Sundays, at 8 pm ET, on Bravo.
