Sunny Hostin Backpedals After Lusting Over 20 Year Old Tennis Star
The View’s Sunny Hostin walked back her thoughts on Wimbledon champion, Carlos Alcaraz, after learning his age.
Whoopi Goldberg started the discussion during Monday’s “Hot Topics” segment, but it wasn’t long before Ana Navarro chimed in her own thoughts on the handsome pro athlete.
“Wait a minute. Did you see the 20-year-old, fine-as-hell Spaniard who won? Carlos Alcaraz?” she asked the daytime panelists.
Sunny Hostin was surprised to learn of Alcaraz’s age, as she believed that the rising tennis star was closer to 30 years old.
“Is he only 20? Because I started googling him immediately. And then felt guilty because I have a son the same age,” she admitted.
Goldberg reminded Hostin — who shares two kids with her husband of more than twenty years—“And a husband who’s a little older than him.”
Sunny Hostin went on to gush over the “extraordinary” match, calling both Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic “so focused” and “so invested.”
The chat show host said — “You saw two people at their best.”
Goldberg predicted that Alcaraz will prove to be a major force in the tennis world.
“He’s such a baby that you know what’s coming for him,” she said. “He’s going to be a monster on the court.”
The 20-year-old Spaniard was featured in Netflix docuseries, “Break Point,” which allowed sports fans a look inside the lives of tennis greats around the world. The series featured Alcaraz competing in the 2022 U.S. Open, where he claimed victory over co-star, Casper Ruud.
Alcaraz shared his thoughts on winning the prestigious title with Today hosts, Savannah Guthrie and Hoda Kotb, on Monday.
“It was a dream come true for me,” Alcaraz said. “It was tough to deal with the nerves facing Novak on that stage.”
Serbia’s Novak Djokovic had not lost a Wimbledon match since 2017 prior to falling to Alacaraz. Alcaraz is the first competitor outside the sport’s ‘big four’ of Djokovic, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray to win the Wimbledon men’s singles title since 2002.
“It’s a dream come true for me,” Alcaraz said, showing emotion after receiving the trophy from the Princess of Wales. “Making history in this beautiful tournament, playing a final against a legend of our sport — for me it’s incredible. It’s amazing, for a boy like me, 20 years old, to reach this kind of situation.”
