Whoopi Goldberg Wants To Replace Pat Sajak On ‘Wheel of Fortune’
Whoopi Goldberg is ready to step into the shoes of “Wheel of Fortune” personality, Pat Sajak, as the host recently announced his plan to leave the long-running game show after an impressive forty year run.
Whoopi threw her hat in the ring on Tuesday’s episode of The View while chatting with “Jeopardy!” host, Ken Jennings.
“I want that job,” the 67-year-old said. “I think it would be lots of fun.”
Whoopi’s co-host, Joy Behar, jokingly remarked — “And you know what? Sara [Haines] and I could be Vanna White. We’ll take turns walking back and forth!”
Jennings, 49, praised Sajak for his legendary run on the iconic game show, during his appearance on the daytime series.
“Well, Pat’s a legend. I mean, over 40 years and the price of a vowel has not gone up one penny. Like, nobody controlled inflation like Pat Sajak,” he quipped.
Jennings signed on as a “Jeopardy!” co-host alongside actress, Mayim Bialik in July 2022, after the death of Alex Trebeck.
“I mean, ‘Jeopardy’ had its own succession crisis,” Jennings added “Hopefully, ‘Wheel’s’ got an envelope saying what happens when Pat packs it in.”
On Monday, Sajak took to Twitter to announce his upcoming retirement, after hosting “Wheel of Fortune” for four decades.
“Well, the time has come,” he wrote. “I’ve decided that our 41st season, which begins in September, will be my last.”
The famous TV personality continued—“It’s been a wonderful ride, and I’ll have more to say in the coming months. Many thanks to you all. (If nothing else, it’ll keep the clickbait sites busy!)”
Sajak hinted that the “end [was] near” for him regarding the show, during an interview with Entertainment Tonight, last year.
“Years go by fast. We’re getting near the end. It’s been a long [time],” he continued. “We’re not gonna do this for another 40 years,” he told the outlet.
He added — “It’s an honor to have been in people’s living rooms for that long. People were out there welcoming us. We’re happy and proud.”
Whoopi’s expressed career aspiration comes after a May report claimed that she was pushing for a raise, despite having two years remaining on her current contract.
Last month, the “Sister Act” actress sparked lots of fan chatter when she offered a tutorial on lap dances, demonstrating on co-host, Sunny Hostin.
The panelists were chatting about whether or not a lap dance received during a bachelor or bachelorette party would qualify as cheating, when Hostin confessed that she wasn’t familiar with the risqué ritual.
Whoopi Goldberg decided to offer a demonstration, asking Hostin — “Would you like to see?”
Hostin gave the moderator the green light, so Whoopi Goldberg walked across the stage floor and proceeded to shimmy up to her co-host.
“And then it’s me going down like, ‘Oh, yeah!’ And then I go back on the side!” Goldberg added, much to the seeming delight of the lawyer.
