NeNe Leakes Fires Back After Bravo Erases Her from ‘RHOA’ History, Fans Outraged!
Real Housewives of Atlanta producers sparked controversy during Sunday’s episode after they scrubbed NeNe Leakes’ image from a flashback scene.
The latest episode of the Georgia franchise opened normally before the credits flashed back to what the opening looked like during Season 4. The fourth season cast included NeNe, Sheree Whitfield, Cynthia Bailey, Phaedra Parks, Kim Zolciak and Kandi Burruss. NeNe posed alongside Phaedra on the far right, in the original Season 4 cast photo.
However, NeNe Leakes was nowhere to be seen in the throwback cast shot featured during Sunday’s episode. Fans noticed immediately and took to social media to sound off about the blatant Bravo diss.
One viewer slammed Bravo boss, Andy Cohen, writing —“your karma is already giving you what you deserve for editing nene out. this is sick and twisted omg! FLOP SHOW! #rhoa.”
Another fan said — “Petty and nasty! Andy and Bravo, no amount of editing could erase Nene’s contributions and legacy. You could never erase Nene from our memories either; she built #RHOA Lawsuit or not, this was unnecessary.”
A third NeNe Leakes defender said — “Erasing NeNe from the flashback on tonight’s episode was petty and unnecessary. This is clearly a complicated legal situation but the constant shade towards someone so crucial to the franchise’s success isn’t a good look.”
One incensed fan wrote — “I thought, “Do I need to get my eyes checked?!” NOT THE NENE ERASURE #RHOA.”
Last year, NeNe filed a lawsuit against Bravo, NBC Universal, Andy Cohen, and production companies, True Entertainment and Truly Original. She accused the defendants of violating federal employment and anti-discrimination laws and alleged that the production companies covered up several incidents involving former cast mate, Kim Zolciak. The lawsuit claimed that Kim used racial stereotypes and slurs toward her black co-stars for years. NeNe eventually dismissed her suit against Bravo due to contractual agreements, which require the stars and the network to hash out litigation in arbitration.
In October 2022, fans noticed that Watch What Happens Live guest, Brandon Kyle Goodman, seemed reluctant to mention the name of the former Bravo diva, during an appearance on the chat show. Viewers immediately began speculating that the network had taken steps to shut down any mention of NeNe’s name in the WWHL clubhouse.
A viewer tweeted — “Watching WWHL, and it’s amazing to see how Bravo has muted ALL THINGS related to NeNe.. Brandon wanted to say her name so bad but I can only imagine a convo had before the show starting like “you can’t bring her up..”
Another pointed out — “Why couldn’t that man say Nene’s name? She is a pioneer. They can’t write Nene out of Housewives history.”
A fan laughed — “LMFAOOOOOOOOOOO THE GUEST JUST NAMED DROPPED NENE ON #WWHL AND ANDY WENT PALE IN THE FACE.”
In response to Bravo’s shade, NeNe Leakes issued her own statement after taking into account the fan comments she heard and read.
“Thank you tweetie pies for all of your DM’s and comments,” she tweeted. “I see everything you are sending to me! It’s really just a shame people can do these things and get away [with] it. If only you really knew! If only you knew.”
Given NeNe’s consistent vocal criticism of Andy Cohen since leaving the show, it can be inferred that she may be referring to him. She has openly accused him of racism and alleged that he has actively hindered her from securing other employment opportunities.
Real Housewives of Atlanta airs Sundays, at 8pm ET, on Bravo.
