Mama June Ashamed She Blew $1M on Meth and Crack: ‘Stupidest Thing I’ve Done’

Mama June Shannon is speaking out her past drug addiction, admitting that spending $1 million on drugs was the “stupidest thing” she’s ever done.

“I don’t remember, like, a lot of that time frame. Just bits and pieces and stuff,” the Mama June: Family Crisis star told the Daily Mail. “But the biggest, stupidest thing I’ve done is spend that much money on drugs.”

The reality star said that she became embroiled in addiction while in a relationship with her ex, Geno Doak.

Geno Doak

Geno and June were arrested on March 15, 2019, outside an Alabama gas station on charges of possession of crack cocaine. Geno was also slapped with possession of drug paraphernalia charge and a third-degree domestic violence charge. The police were called to the location to settle a “domestic dispute” before the couple was arrested. Cops found a glass pipe with white residue, needles, and a green pill inside the couple’s car.

They pleaded not guilty to possessing crack cocaine that October before checking into rehab. The couple broke up in September 2021.

Mama June Shannon explained that her addiction shifted from snorting cocaine to smoking crack after her first habit damaged her vision.

She added that she remembered telling herself at the height of her addiction — “Girl, what the hell are you doing spending all that damn money?”

“I say that a lot to my husband [Justin ‘Smallz’ Stroud],” she continued. “I would be like, ‘Man, why in the hell did I blow all that money?’ I am always thinking about that.”

The 43-year-old shared that she dropped $3k a day on drugs during her addiction.

“I think about a lot of things I could do with that money,” the WE tv star admitted. “My husband tells me all the time that I can’t dwell on it.”

The Here Comes Honey Boo Boo alum added — “Now I’ve gone back to being like penny-pinching, and Justin tells me I’m a money hoarder.”

Last year, June surrendered custody of her youngest daughter, Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson, now 17, to her 23-year-old daughter, Lauryn “Pumpkin” Efird and her husband, Joshua Efird.

In June 2022, June spoke out about her decision during an appearance on Page Six’s Virtual Reali-Tea podcast. She clarified that it was Alana’s choice to stay with her sister, who was granted temporary custody during her mother’s battle with substance abuse.

“People don’t understand the custody thing. It’s not like somebody ‘lost custody.’ In the state of Georgia, you do temporary guardianship every year and [Alana] had been with [Lauryn] in my addiction,” June said.

June added, in part — “Pumpkin stepping up, I’m very grateful because it could have turned into a bad situation. At the time Alana went to go live with Pumpkin at the beginning, I couldn’t even take care of my own self — more or less take care of anybody else.”
