‘Real Housewives of Miami’ Star Guerdy Abraira Reveals Cancer Diagnosis
Guerdy Abraira revealed Wednesday that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer.
The Real Housewives of Miami star took to Instagram to share the health update with fans and followers.
She opened up about processing the difficult news amid production for RHOM Season 6.
“In March, I found out some news about my health. I was in St. Barts having the time of my life when my doctor called me with results following a regular mammogram checkup,” Guerdy wrote. “I have breast cancer.”
She continued — “It took me a while to process it all and this is why I took a break from social media last month as many noticed. Many of you reached out to check on me and I am thankful for your caring gestures. For now I am preparing for my upcoming surgery and then will come my treatment plan. This process is definitely intense and what I ask of you is empowerment not pity.”
The Peacock star added that she planned to “guerdify this cancer” as she has done with “everything else in [her] life.”
She shared that the cancer was detected early, writing — “I am lucky that this breast cancer was discovered at an early stage – it is still scary of course, but I have love and support from those around me and that alone is the fuel that I need.”
She advised — “For those who do not get health checks regularly, I urge you to. Your life depends on it.”
Guerdy Abraira’s diagnosis comes only four months after the wife of her co-star, Julia Lemigova, tennis legend, Martina Navratilova, announced that she had been diagnosed with both throat and breast cancer.
In February, Guerdy appeared on Page Six’s Virtual Reali-Tea podcast, where she spoke about Martina’s “very, very positive prognosis.”
“It’s on the preventative side, when they found out, it’s early. And we [pray], and that’s it. We’re keeping our head down and [hoping] for the best for her,” the wedding planner said. “They’re in great spirits, that’s the good news.”
Martina and Julia confirmed months later that the former tennis star was “cancer free.”
Julia spoke out about the ordeal on Piers Morgan’s TalkTV, sharing how “proud” she was that her wife endured the treatment with “so much strength and positivity.”
“When your wife is diagnosed with cancer – and especially two cancers – it puts life into perspective. Everything that seems to be important is suddenly not that important,” Julia said.
The Real Housewives of Miami Season 6 is currently in production.
