Controversial Parenting: Ice-T and Coco’s 7-year-old Daughter Still Sleeps with Parents
Ice-T, Coco Austin and their daughter share the same family bed. The rapper revealed that the couple shares a bed with their 7-year-old daughter, Chanel, during a Tuesday appearance on the “That Moment with Daymond John” podcast.
The musician explained that his connection with Chanel is stronger than the relationships he has with his 47-year-old daughter, Letesha, and son, Tracy, 31, whom he shares with exes, Adrienne and Darlene Ortiz, respectively.
“I am so much more connected to her than my other kids,” he said of his bond with his daughter.
The “Law & Order: SVU” actor explained that he was “distracted” by his career during his previous years of fatherhood, admitting, “I’m comfortable [now]. I’m in a cruise pattern. I was there when Coco was pregnant, I went to the hospital and Chanel still sleeps in the bed with us.”
The 65-year-old used a quote by Muhammad Ali to describe having a child later in life, noting that a man having “a child in the second half of his life, after he turns 50,” is a “reset.”
Ice-T and Austin have been married since 2002.
Ice-T was 58 when he welcomed Chanel with Austin, 44, in November 2015. The couple has regularly taken on internet trolls for dissing their parenting choices, such as bathing their child in a sink.
In 2019, the rapper clapped back after he was called out for posting a photo of Austin sleeping topless next to Chanel and their dog.
Ice-T reminded one critic that “women have nipples” before tweeting — “May I ask what’s your problem? … Everybody have a Great Day. Make your haters sick.”
Austin opened up about the harsh blowback during an emotional appearance on the Tamron Hall Show, last year. The model cried over being mom-shamed, comparing the negative feedback to constantly “being underneath a microscope.”
“You don’t hear the goodness, you just hear a lot of bad,” Austin shared during the November 2022 episode. “And I know I’m a good mother.”
