RECAP: ’90 Day Fiance’ The Other Way’ Mahmoud HATES Nicole’s New Egyptian Friend

Sunday’s episode of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way featured Nicole Sherbiny introducing her husband, Mahmoud, to her new friend — and things did not go well.

Nicole connected with Nouran during a meditation class and felt an instant camaraderie after she learned more about Nouran’s relaxed lifestyle in Egypt. Mahmoud insisted on meeting anyone his wife was sending time with, but the interaction did not bring rave reviews from Nicole’s conservative husband. Mahmoud felt challenged by Nouran, as the meditation leader had rejected the idea that the Muslim religion required women to wear a hijab and completely cover their bodies.

Fans know that Mahmoud and Nicole clashed over her clothing picks and her refusal to wear a hijab, a subject that remained a sore spot within their relationship.

Nouran kicked off the tension when she admitted that it was “a bit weird” that Mahmoud had demanded to meet her.

“My impression about Mahmoud is he’s very stereotypical,” Nouran told cameras. “The typical Egyptian man … he feels safe in this [modesty] zone and feels like there’s threat outside of this zone because he doesn’t know anything else.”

The conversation quickly turned to religion and Mahmoud expressed his belief that it was inappropriate for his wife to attend a coed yoga class.

“I’m not going to feel comfortable if she stretch[es] around men,” he explained. “I don’t want to be a rude person. You can do that, but I don’t like it — any man look to my wife when she stretch.”

Nouran pointed out that the men are in the class to practice yoga not gawk at the women, asking Mahmoud — “So now you’re blaming the wrongdoings of men on Nicole, or on women? Because men are looking and staring and fantasizing, then women should accommodate to that?”

He responded — “Our relationship is haram [forbidden] if my wife does that around people.”

The trio continued to debate the requirements laid out in the Quran, and Nouran argued that there was nothing stated in the religious text requiring  women to wear hijabs. Fans know that Mahmoud had staunchly defended his own interpretation and that Nicole had not fully complied with his demands.

Nicole stayed mostly silent throughout the exchange, but did interject a few times to support her husband. She later noted in a confessional spot that she was “proud” of how Mahmoud had handled himself.

“She’s a strong woman, and I was actually really proud of my husband,” Nicole said. “He didn’t storm off and be mad, he just told it like he knows it and never wavered from who he is, which is really standard Mahmoud.

She added — “At the same time, I’m worried nothing will ever change. And I need things to change in order to be happy here.”

Nicole believed that the coffee chat had gone well, but Mahmoud disagreed.

Nouran is like the worst girl ever I’ve met in my life, I think,” he told cameras. “If you’re Muslim, you have to take all rules. I hate people that take the parts you like and lose what you hate.”

He later noted—“I don’t trust her much.”
