Captain Lee, 73, had been a fixture of the popular franchise for 11 seasons, and his absence left many fans feeling let down.

Speculations circulated that Captain Lee was retiring, but he has recently disclosed that the choice to not return to the show was not his to make.

“I did not quit. I did not retire,” he told The Sun-Sentinel. “I was just not invited back.”

However, fans need not worry as Captain Lee hinted at a potential return to Bravo in the future, suggesting that he is not done with the network yet.

“We came to an agreement, and I’m going to be doing some things for them in the next year. Then, Season 12?” he told the news outlet. “I imagine they are going to see what happens with Season 11, with somebody new trying to take over for me, see how they do. If it’s too expensive for them, we’ll see what happens. If the numbers take a tank, would I go back? Yeah.”

Despite his willingness to consider a return to Bravo, Captain Lee expressed his dissatisfaction with the way he was informed of his departure from the franchise. After spending a significant amount of time with the show, he believed that he deserved more consideration and respect.

According to Captain Lee, a producer informed him of his non-inclusion in Season 12 over the phone, which left him feeling slightly hurt. Nonetheless, he mentioned that he eventually came to terms with their decision and understood why it had been made.

“I guess I can see their point of view. They really couldn’t get a straight answer from anyone on how my health was,” he said.

During Season 11 of Below Deck, Captain Lee had to temporarily relinquish his captaincy and step away due to ongoing health concerns. In his absence, he was replaced by Captain Sandy Yawn from Below Deck Mediterranean, causing controversy among fans.

However, Captain Lee later returned to complete the season and expressed his gratitude towards Bravo for being accommodating towards his health issues.

Captain Lee shared, “Production was really great about it. They got me a physical therapist down there, a massage therapist, a medic came in to stretch my leg every day. I had to have somebody help dress me. We did everything we could to make it work.”
