‘RHOBH’ Alum Claims Kyle Richards Pushes Drama Behind The Scenes

Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum, Brandi Glanville, offered insight on the only remaining OG of the series, Kyle Richards, and her understood role on the Bravo show, during the March 27 episode of the Behind the Velvet Rope with David Yontef podcast.

Brandi Glanville explained that Kyle is the driving force behind the show, but added that she gets banged up along the way. 

“Kyle’s kind of the middle, making sure that there’s a story and she’s getting a lot of f***ing hate for it,” she said. “But she’s doing her job. And Kyle and I are good. Like we text all the time and she hates the hate.”

Brandi pointed out that Kyle Richards pushing conversations within the group is why the show a success. 

Brandi noted — “So I feel like she’s driving the ship in a way.”

Kyle Richards has been regularly hit with fan backlash for frequently inserting herself into cast drama. In Season 1, she outed her sister, Kim Richards’ alcoholism during a heated on-camera argument.

During the most recent season, Kyle Richards was slammed for laughing over Erika Jayne cursing at Garcelle Beauvais’ teenage son. She was also ripped by fans for drunkenly questioning Sutton Stracke’s claim that she had suffered miscarriages. 

Brandi asserted that the show needs Kyle in the mix to stir up drama. 

“We need her to do that to make the show,” the reality star said. “I mean, she’s the OG. I feel like she holds it on the show and when something’s not happening, she feels responsible because she wants to give a good show. So she’ll say, you know, she’ll get in trouble to make sure these conversations between people are happening.”

Brandi added that Kyle does not process negative feedback well.  

“She’s gotten so much hate,” Brandi noted. “She can’t handle it very well but I know what she’s doing because I watch it with a different perspective. She’s getting the conversation started and then she’s letting them do what they have to do.”

Brandi revealed that she sometimes texts Kyle as she watches the show. 

“And she’s like, …’ I can’t look at social media.’ It really breaks my heart. [She’s] getting more hate than I’ve ever got. And I am like, yeah girl, but guess what? You made the show for all of us to watch,” Brandi shared. 

Brandi explained that Kyle is also “very anxious,” adding that Season 12 was especially difficult for the Bravo veteran. Fans know that Kyle clashed with her sister, Kathy Hilton, which led to a rift that remains unresolved. 

Kyle Richards appeared on the, Two Ts in a Pod podcast in October, telling fans that much about the complicated sibling dynamic remained under wraps. 

“You cannot understand family dynamics,” Kyle told host and friend, Teddi Mellencamp. “You can think you do because you’ve watched the show, you have no idea what goes on behind closed doors. You have no idea the history.”

“So if I have to have people hate me for thinking a certain thing, I’ll take it. I’d rather have people that don’t know me think I’m an a**hole than deal with more problems with my own blood by speaking up,” she added.

Kyle revealed that she received so much fan vitriol over questioning Sutton’s miscarriage story that she stopped watching the show for more than a month. 

In September, Kyle appeared on “Watch What Happens Live,” and host, Andy Cohen, pointed out that her involvement with Sutton and Diana’s intimate discussion about miscarriages did not “land” with viewers. 

“I wish I could change a lot of things about that night,” Kyle admitted. ”It was so bad. And looking at it gave me so much anxiety I actually couldn’t watch the show for about five episodes after that because my anxiety was so bad.”

The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills is currently in production.
