Honey Boo Boo Apologizes For Mocking Black Ghetto People With Fake Accent
Alana “Honey Boo Boo” Thompson is walking back her actions after using a supposedly “f**king ghetto” accent that many called “racist” in a recent TikTok video.
On Sunday, the reality TV teen explained to her Instagram followers that her video wasn’t “mean[t] to offend,” claiming that her goal was to fire back at people who “comment on how ghetto [her] speech is.”
Alana apologized after she blamed her behavior on “proving a point to the karens that love having an opinion on everything.”
“if in any way i did disrespect anyone i apologize,” the Toddlers and Tiaras alum wrote on her Story, over the weekend. “i never meant for it to come off like that.”
The Mama June: Road to Redemption star was called out for both the voice she used in the TikTok and for patting her head.
The 17-year-old wrote—“in no way was I being rude or disrespectful by the head taps. I [understand] that people use that method to relieve [an] itch when they have a hairstyle.”
“I’m fully aware, I also love trying new wigs as well,” the WeTv personality said, adding that her IG statement would be the last time she “will speak on this topic.”
A clip from the teenager’s TikTok Live went viral, with many Twitter users drawing comparisons between her voice and Big Energy rapper Latto. Many shared their surprise that Alana didn’t lip synch the video or use a “VoiceOver.”
One user said that the former child star was in “her racist era.”
Another person chimed in — “with my eyes closed you couldn’t convince me that this isn’t a [black woman].”
Alana made headlines earlier this month, after her boyfriend, Dralin Carswell, was arrested for allegedly driving under the influence.
Dralin, 21, was detained by police after a three mile chase, on February 28. A Monroe County Georgia police officer ran the tag of a Dodge Charger in front of a gas station on Highway 24, and received confirmation that there had been a warrant issued under the name of the car’s owner. The officer attempted a traffic stop but the vehicle sped north, according to authorities.
Dralin was arrested for DUI, fleeing, failing to maintain lanes, and following too closely. He also received a speeding citation. The passenger, Julian Malik Divon Williams, 24, was arrested for outstanding warrants.
Dralin spent two days in jail on a $25k bond.
In July, the teen told Entertainment Tonight that the “two most things that everybody is always talking about is our age gap and definitely because he’s Black and I’m white and we’re an interracial couple.”
“I don’t care,” she said. “Because, like, at the end of the day, my sister approves, his mom approves, and we’re happy, so what fans got to say or what haters got to say I don’t really care.”
Alana, who has been dating since Dralin since 2021, added that her family “approved” of their relationship.
