Savannah Guthrie’s Personal Question to Hoda Kotb Leaves Jenna Bush Hager Speechless On Live TV
Jenna Bush Hager was shocked after her co-host, Savannah Guthrie, put Hoda Kotb on the spot, during Thursday’s broadcast of The Today Show.
The trio was chatting about faith, family and relationships during the show’s Talker segment, when Savannah shifted the focus to Hoda’s personal life.
“Well, let me ask you this Hoda,” Savannah 51, said, putting her co-star in the hot-seat. “Cause you’re thinking you might date again one day.”
Jenna chimed in — “Ooo. You’re going there. We’re talking about it.”
Savannah pressed Hoda — “Can we pre-screen your potential dates?”
Hoda, 58, cosigned the idea, commenting — “I actually trust you guys implicitly. So, if you thought somebody was good for me, I would trust you and go out on that date.”
Savannah grinned and turned to Jenna, who told her co-host that she was on the hunt for a man for their mutual colleague and friend. Hoda noted that Jenna was skilled at connecting singles looking for love.
“I have a screening process they go through,” Savannah said, telling Jenna — “You find them, I’ll screen them.”
Hoda was in a longtime relationship with financier/entrepreneur, Joel Schiffman, before the couple parted ways, last year. The pair first connected after Hoda spoke at a Wall Street professionals event, in 2013. Hoda and Joel adopted a baby girl together, Haley Joy, in February, 2017. They later welcomed a second daughter, Hope Catherine, in April 2019.
Hoda announced on live television that she and Joel were engaged after dating for eight years, on November 25, 2019. The duo planned to wed in 2020, but postponed their nuptials due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
On January 31, 2022, Hoda announced during the Today broadcast that she and Joel had split.
Hoda explained to viewers — “Joel and I have had a lot of prayerful and meaningful conversations over the holidays and we decided that we are better as friends and parents than we are as an engaged couple.
She added — “So we decided we are going to start this new year on our new path as loving parents to our adorably delightful children and as friends.”
Hoda was married to Burzis Kanga, a former University of New Orleans tennis coach, from 2005-2008.
This wasn’t the first time that Hoda’s co-hosts have tried to play matchmaker.
Jenna tested the waters earlier this month, with guest, “Farmer Wants Wife” star, Hunter Grayson. Hunter, along with cast-mates, Ryan Black, Landon Heaton and Allen Foster, decided to teach Hoda and Jenna how to lasso an animal. Jenna stepped aside during the segment with Hunter, allowing Hoda more direct contact as the country pro demonstrated his skill. Hoda didn’t pull off a lasso toss, but did score a sweet compliment from her guest.
“I’m just gonna say she roped the prettiest thing in the room!” Hunter told Hoda, encouraging applause from everyone on stage.
Hoda gave Hunter a hug, which led Jenna to ask — “Wait, did you find love?”
Jenna later asked the other reality stars if they “had a farmer for Hoda,” prompting laughter all around.
