Jenelle Evans Awarded Full Custody of Son Jace
Jenelle Evans has finally won back custody of her 13-year-old son, Jace, ten years after the Teem Mom 2 alum’s mother, Barbara Evans, was awarded full custody of her grandson.
The former MTV star told Us Weekly on Saturday — “My mom and I decided together to grant full custody back to me because we want to build our relationship back as mother and daughter.”
Jenelle Evans added — “Also, my mother agrees it’s time for Jace to be back with his siblings and living with a mother and father.”
The 31-year-old shares Jace with ex, Andrew Lewis.
Jace will join his two half siblings when he starts living with his mother and her current husband, David Eason, 34, full time.
Jenelle explained — “She also thinks it’s important for Jace to be around a father figure to learn ‘boy things’ and have ‘men talk.’ She has seen the way David parents my children and she knows we’re able to handle it.”
The mom of three went on — “We want to all get along for the sake of the children and like I said before, building back our relationship as mother and daughter. We have officially signed the papers on Thursday, March 16th at the courthouse, it’s a done deal!”
Jenelle gave up custody of her firstborn to her mother shortly after Jace’s birth, in 2009. The then-17-year-old Teen Mom 2 star was charged with marijuana possession and breaking and entering, before she surrendered her son.
Jenelle is also mom to son, Kaiser, 8, whom she shares with ex, Nathan Griffith, and daughter, Ensley, 6, her only child with David. She is also a stepmother to David’s 15-year-old daughter, Maryssa. David and Jenelle wed in 2017.
Jenelle’s manager, August Keen, told the outlet that the former MTV couple is stable and happy.
“Jenelle and David are definitely together and things between them are great. They’re a happy family and they are completely fine,” he said.
In 2016, Jenelle and Barbara faced off in court as the reality TV mom launched a legal war to win back custody of Jace. Jenelle was successful in having the case sealed, but regularly spoke out about her son’s “out of control” behavior and how she believed that her mother was not up to the task of caring for the child.
Jenelle was granted every other weekend visitation with Jace during the custody battle.
In a later 2021 court filing, per a report by the U.S. Sun, Jenelle claimed that there had been a “substantial change in circumstances affecting the welfare of the minor child” that called for a legal custody shift. She later filed for emergency custody, claiming that her son was “at risk of bodily injury” under Barbara’s care.
Jenelle alleged that Jace had “increasingly worse behavior problems that cause him to be physically aggressive, out of control and unsafe.”
She claimed that Jace had “physically assaulted” his grandmother and “burned the carpet because he was angry with [Barbara],” on December 19, 2020.
Jenelle hinted at big news on social media, last month.
She wrote in a Facebook comment — “Can’t wait to share my news to you this week about my case.”
“I’m about to achieve the unthinkable and cannot wait to share the news with everyone,” Jenelle wrote in a separate comment, but later clarified that she was not “talking about custody at all.”
