Kandi Burruss’ Old Lady Gang Restaurant Achieves ‘A’ Health Score After Numerous Failing Grades
Kandi Burruss’ Atlanta restaurant, Old Lady Gang, was awarded a perfect health score only two years after the eatery was hit with a much lower mark.
The restaurant, owned by the Real Housewives of Atlanta star and husband, Todd Tucker, was paid a visit by the Georgia Department of Public Health on March 1, according to public records.
Old Lady Gang was awarded an “A,” with a perfect health score of 100 out of 100. The restaurant had held a “C” rating of 75 since July 2021. The health department official flagged the establishment during the last inspection after the inspector observed sliced cheese, raw salmon, and sliced tomatoes being stored at a temperature of above 41 degrees.
The report stated — “Working containers of food removed from original container not identified by common name.”
A previous health inspection reported that there was no soap and a lack of paper towels at the hand washing sink in the main kitchen. The state investigator also noted that sliced cheese, raw hamburger, shrimp, chicken, and crab cakes weren’t being stored at proper temperatures. The Atlanta establishment earned a 77 rating in February 2021, but improved their score weeks later, to a 94. In July 2021, things took a turn for the worse.
A similar pattern played out with Kandi Burruss and Todd’s other restaurant, Blaze Steak & Seafood. The steakhouse was recently awarded an “A” two years after being forced to temporarily shut down, after failing a health inspection. Kandi and Todd voluntarily closed the restaurant in 2021 for a couple of days, to bring up the establishment’s score.
“Observed that both prep coolers on the line across from the ovens have food that is out of temperature above 41F,” the report stated, at the time.
In June 2021, Blaze was reviewed a second time and received a “C” rating.
“Observed hot potentially hazardous food received at less than 135 degrees Fahrenheit,” the report said.
The inspection stated that an official observed “hot potentially hazardous food received at less than 135 degrees Fahrenheit.” The report also cited mislabeled chemical bottles and food items, spoiled buttermilk, and a procedural mishandling of thawed fish. A dangling light shield and a ceiling condensation problem were repaired on-site, under the watchful eye of the inspector.
Blaze earned a 91 out of 100, during the most recent visit from the health department. The report cited one issue — “Observed two employees prepping food with no hair restraint. CFSM instructed both employees to put on a hair restraint and wash hands then return to work.”
The official also noted — “Observed no soap in employee handing wash sink on cook line and in bar.”
The southwest Atlanta restaurant opened in November 2020 and promotes a fine dining steakhouse experience.
