Alexia Nepola’s Son Frankie Knew Her Marriage to Herman Would Not Last

Real Housewives of Miami star, Alexia Nepola’s youngest son, Frankie Rosello, knew that his mother’s marriage to second husband, Herman Echevarria, was a dead end.

The 26-year-old told Page Six that he knew that his mom’s second marriage wouldn’t go the distance when he was asked if he thought there was a chance that his mother and Herman would reconcile after they separated in 2016.

“Zero,” Frankie told the outlet.

Alexia Nepola revealed that she had remained hopeful during the separation, because their breakup was on “friendly terms” and their separation was meant to serve as only a small “time out.”

“As a woman, when you’re in the situation, you don’t see certain things,” Alexia said.

Alexia and Herman were married from 2004-2016, the year the 61-year-old died unexpectedly of a heart attack. Alexia admitted that there were red flags within the relationship, as she looked back at her marriage.

“I felt like I was in a bird cage with Herman for so many years,” she said. “We were happily married for many years, but he was very controlling. He was very possessive.”

The Peacock star discovered after Herman’s death that he was bisexual, a revelation she openly shared on RHOM.

“Once I would have found out about that, I think I would have probably divorced him,” Alexia shared.

Alexia found love again with her third husband, Todd Nepola, who was by her side as she returned to the rebooted Bravo series. Alexia tied the knot with the New York businessman in December 2021.

Alexia revealed that fans have shared lots of messages, via social media, since her return to the reality TV spotlight. She added that the most touching notes are those referencing her son, Frankie, who suffered brain damage after being involved in a near fatal car wreck, in 2011. Frankie was 13-years-old and riding in the passenger seat of a friend’s vehicle at the time of the crash.

“I get so depressed,” Alexia confessed. “One day, Todd came into the room … and he sees me and he goes, ‘What happened? Why are you crying?’ I was in my bed, like, crying hysterically .. I’ve never been depressed in my life.”

Alexia added that the messages from families who have experienced similar ordeals touch her heart, because she “knows that pain.”

“I wish I could do more,” the mother of two said. “All I can do is pray and give them that strength and that encouragement to keep on going to never take ‘no’ [for an answer], don’t give up.”

Last month, Alexia, who also shares 30-year-old son, Peter, with first husband, Peter Rosello Sr., opened up about her ongoing struggle to cope with Frankie’s accident, in an emotional statement on Instagram.

“I will never recover from Frankie’s accident,” Alexia said. “It’s only my wish that he can continue to improve in time, and he can be as ‘normal and productive’ as his limitations allow. I will never accept the loss of my dreams for him, and I will never give up on him or Peter. Our pain is so deep.”

Alexia spoke about how she navigated her role as a mom over the 11 years since the accident, which included six months of hospital visits and working to adjust to her son’s post-accident needs.
