Hoda Kotb Is Hopeful After ‘Scary’ Hospitalization
Following her 3-year-old daughter Hope’s “really scary” hospitalization, Hoda Kotb celebrated her being “home and healthy.”
Hoda Kotb, 58, a broadcast journalist, gave viewers of Today with Hoda & Jenna an update on her daughter’s health on Monday’s show, after being absent from the program for two weeks.
“She’s vibrant and brilliant,” Hoda Kotb, 58, gushed. “I’m over the moon that she’s home.
“I can’t believe how amazing people are,” the news anchor continued, calling herself “blessed” and “really, really grateful.”
Expressing gratitude towards the nurses and doctors who supported Hope throughout her hospitalization, Kotb shared an endearing tale about her youngest child, describing her as “sweet” and “cute.”
“The other day … she had in her hand two little confetti stars, and she said, ‘I got two, Mom. One for me and one for you,’” she recalled. “And I thought to myself, ‘Even when she’s not feeling good, she’s still giving everything away.’”
As Hope continues to recover, the You Are My Happy author has been wearing a necklace from a close friend that she described as “worn-down,” which serves as a reminder that, “God’s got this.”
Kotb, who shares her daughters Hope and Haley, who is 6 years old, with her ex-fiancé Joel Schiffman, admitted that staying positive and grateful has been challenging for her in recent weeks.
Kotb and her family members are relieved and content to have Hope home and are keeping a close eye on her. The broadcast journalist first addressed her daughter’s health scare on the “Today” show earlier that day.
“My youngest, Hope, was in the ICU for a few days and in the hospital for more than a week,” she said at the top of Monday’s show.
The Daytime Emmy winner’s revelation came five days after her co-anchor Craig Melvin explained that she had been off the air due to a “family health matter.”
Hoda did not offer a response to Melvin’s mysterious remark last week, however, Al Roker assured Page Six that their colleague would recover without issue.
Former first daughter, Jenna Bush Hager, conveyed her affection and admiration for Kotb on air, stating her desire for her co-host’s return “very, very soon.” While NBC anchors continued to substitute for Hoda Kotb, she shared encouraging social media posts focusing on “hope” during “difficult times.”
