Kyle Richards Reveals Why She Never Calls Out Erika Jayne Despite Fan Backlash
Kyle Richards is explaining why she has refused to call out Real Housewives of Beverly Hills co-star, Erika Jayne, for her icy attitude toward the victims allegedly ripped off by her estranged husband, Tom Girardi.
The Bravo veteran offered an explanation during a Monday appearance on “Two Ts in a Pod,” the podcast co-hosted by pal and former co-star, Teddi Mellencamp and returning Real Housewives of Orange County star, Tamra Judge.
“These girls are all important to me, the women on the show, some more than others, obviously. I have a history with them, and when I have had hard times, they really have been there for me, which is why it’s hard,” Kyle said, on the January 23 episode.
Kyle noted that she was responsible for bringing her sisters, Kim Richards and Kathy Hilton, on the show, before admitting that she has struggled to confront cast members who have supported her various endeavors, over the years.
“We get called out like, ‘Why aren’t you calling out Erika and yelling at her?’ Even though I know what the audience is saying, I’m not stupid. I read the same things. I understand that people are like, ‘What the hell? Give the earrings back.’ I get all that,” Kyle explained. “[But] it’s very hard when someone [has] been there for you for seven years and when I didn’t have my sisters … [And] when she’s calling me and saying, ‘I just want you to know, Kyle, I’m really proud of you. You’ve done an incredible job with American Woman.’”
Kyle explained that Erika and other cast members have been “nothing but kind” to her, in recent years.
“It’s really hard. That’s probably the hardest thing about the Housewives, to sit there, ‘I’m gonna call you out.’ Really? This person’s been nothing but kind to me,” she said. “So I have to split myself and go, ‘I understand what we’re reading but we don’t know the truth yet so I’m going to reserve judgment because she’s been a good friend to me.’”
Meanwhile, rumors have swirled for weeks about who may be joining the RHOBH cast for Season 13, in the wake of Lisa Rinna and Diana Jenkins’ departures. New faces as well as throwback cast members have been rumored to be in the running for the upcoming season. Kyle shot down the rumors, calling the online chatter “a lie.”
“They keep saying that certain people are joining, not true. Every year it’s like this. It’s so weird,” she remarked.
Kyle revealed that she remains closest to Dorit Kemsley and Sutton Stracke. She gushed over her friendship with Sutton, who was embroiled in messy drama with Lisa Rinna, during Season 12.
“I’ve always had a great relationship with Sutton [but] they don’t show it [on RHOBH]. We talk all the time. We like to talk in the morning. We’ll stay on the phone for like an hour. She’s really fun and funny, and I love that about her,” Kyle said, adding that she “used to have the best time with [former co-star Eileen Davidson].”
Fans have criticized Kyle over the years for perpetually riding the fence, amid various cast feuds and ongoing drama. Last season, viewers blasted the reality star for not having Kathy Hilton’s back amid her bitter feud with Lisa Rinna.
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills will begin production this month.
