Savannah Chrisley Reveals Personal Struggle After Parents Begin Prison Stints
Savannah Chrisley is opening up about separating from her parents, Todd and Julie Chrisley, who recently began their respective prison sentences.
The Chrisley Knows Best star spoke out about the difficult transition on Tuesday’s episode of her podcast, Unlocked, which was filmed five days before her parents surrendered to authorities, last week.
Todd and Julie Chrisley were found guilty of fraud and tax evasion in June 2022 and were sentenced to a combined 19 years in prison. Todd, 53, was sentenced to 12 years at Federal Prison Camp Pensacola in Florida, and Julie, 50, was sentenced to 7 years and will serve her time at the Federal Medical Center Lexington in Lexington, Kentucky. Todd’s prison is a minimum security facility while Julie’s is medium security.
The 25-year-old spoke candidly about facing a new normal.
“So for those of you that are familiar with my family and have followed our lives and have also followed my podcast, you know that last week was an extremely difficult week for my family as a whole and for each of us individually,” Savannah said.
She added—“We kind of had to say goodbye to my parents for a little bit of time, for the foreseeable future. And that was really, really, really tough.”
Savannah noted that if the podcast’s tone appeared upbeat, it was because the episode was filmed prior to her “life falling apart.”
“I think it’s because there was a lot of hope that was had and I wasn’t faced with the reality of the situation,” she shared, adding that next week’s episode will be a “very intense one-on-one podcast with myself kind of giving an update on where my life’s at.”
Savannah has remained loyal to her parents as the couple continues to maintain their innocence. The reality star promised to fight for her mom, as Julie began her prison stint.
“Will forever fight for this smile ❤️ I love you mama,” Savannah wrote alongside a smiling photo of her mom on her Instagram Story.
The reality TV couple was convicted in June of conspiracy to commit bank fraud, conspiracy to defraud the United States, and tax fraud. Prosecutors proved that the pair took out loans to fund luxury lifestyles while dodging taxes and hiding money from the IRS.
“The Chrisleys have built an empire based on the lie that their wealth came from dedication and hard work,” a statement from prosecutors read, per a New York Times report.
“The jury’s unanimous verdict sets the record straight: Todd and Julie Chrisley are career swindlers who have made a living by jumping from one fraud scheme to another, lying to banks, stiffing vendors, and evading taxes at every corner.”
Prosecutors called Todd “the mastermind” of the duo’s tax and bank fraud scheme. They believe that Julie played a lesser role in the famous couple’s crimes.
