‘Teen Mom’ Counselor ‘Concerned’ About Ashley Jones After She Spits on Briana DeJesus in Filmed Brawl
Teen Mom counselor, Dr. Cheyenne Bryant, has weighed in on the brawl that exploded between Ashley Jones and Briana DeJesus that was featured on the January 17 episode of Teen Mom: Family Reunion.
Ashley, 26, and Briana, 28, got into a screaming match that went to the next level as they defended their feuding mothers. Ashley spat in the face of her co-star, which prompted Briana to lunge and hurl random objects. MTV producers eventually forced Briana, Ashley, and their mothers, Roxanne and Tea, off the property due to the unhinged outburst.
Dr. Cheyenne Bryant spoke to The U.S. Sun about the disturbing fight, despite not being present at the time. She revealed that she “wasn’t surprised” that the argument spun out of control.
Dr. Bryant said — “There was a lot of antagonizing going on, on both ends, and a lot of unresolved issues.”
She continued — “But I do believe… if I would’ve been able to sit down with them and have some resolve, I think that it would’ve just reopened or resurfaced again at some point because the concerns and issues that Ashley and Briana have are much deeper than just a social media post or a tweet.”
The life coach/psych expert explained that even if the Teen Mom stars entered therapy, the core problem might simply be a “personality conflict.”
She noted — “Some people just don’t click and that’s just the reality of it.”
“Some people’s personalities just do not mesh… But if our personalities don’t mesh and we have a personality conflict, then we have to understand that [they have to] deal with each other on a very respectful, cordial basis.”
Dr. Bryant went on to explain what she knew about Ashley, and how her backstory may have contributed to the violent blowout.
“She often feels, you know, that [the Teen Mom cast] can’t relate to her,” the expert said. “She doesn’t relate to them. She often feels that it’s a race thing.”
The counselor, who admitted that she could “empathize and sympathize” with Ashley, continued—”Obviously, there’s something triggering for them to say, ‘Hey, I racially don’t feel like I’m accepted.’ And that’s more heartbreaking than saying, ‘I don’t feel accepted because I am aggressive. I don’t feel accepted because I’m confrontational.’”
She added — “That’s totally different than saying I don’t feel accepted because of my race. That’s a lot more deeply rooted and I feel like it has a deeper impact on somebody.”
“That concerns me about her personally because I don’t feel that way, Cheyenne [Floyd] doesn’t feel that way, but Ashley does,” she shared. “And so for all of us being black women to be in the same environment, only one black woman feels that way. That concerns me.”
The Teen Mom: Family Reunion cast also includes Catelynn Lowell, Cheyenne Floyd, Kayla Sessler, Amber Portwood, Kiaya Elliot, Jade Cline, and Maci Bookout.
Dr. Bryant revealed that she checks in on the young women, off-camera.
“We’re still doing a lot of work off camera, which you guys will see on some of the other shows that the girls are on that are not on the team,” she revealed “Definitely, we have a relationship where they know that I have their backs and I’m here for them. These issues that they have are real issues and concerns and, you know, I’m providing real tools that really works for them.”
Dr. Bryant added — “Being a young woman and having dreams and goals and opening up businesses and being a good person and seeing their heart open up and their vulnerability and them being able to trust themself, that is one of the most beautiful things that a person in my position could ever experience.”
Teen Mom: Family Reunion airs on Tuesdays at 8 pm ET on MTV.
