Ryan Seacrest Inappropriately Straddles Guest During Live Show

Ryan Seacrest had an awkward on-air moment with the new Bachelor star Zach Shallcross during Monday’s broadcast of Live with Kelly and Ryan.

While on the show, Zach, 26, revealed to Ryan and Kelly Ripa that the hug jumps are a big deal in The Bachelor and The Bachelorette franchise. After he said that, Kelly asked Zach to demonstrate to them how a hug jump happens.

Ryan graciously stood up from his chair, ready to participate in the “hug jump” and asked, “So what do I do?” Zach responded, “Kind of like jump and I’ll carry you and then we do this quick little spin,” before Zach reenacted the spin that they were about to do.

An excited Ryan rushed The Bachelor star, “Alright let’s go let’s get this over with.” As they got ready, Zach pretended to greet Ryan as if they had just met for the first time. “So good to see you Ryan,” he said right before the American Idol host leaped into his arms. It was a great moment for Ryan, who was smiling as the audience cheered them on. He posted a photo of the moment he and Zach hug jumped and captioned it, “Don’t tell HR about this hug jump.”

Fans took to Ryan’s comment section and sounded off about the hug jump.

One person added, “Ryan! You’re absolutely the best! Such a good sport with everything! It’s no wonder why you are loved so much.”

Another follower said, “I won’t even admit how many times I went back and watched this.”

A third said, “I love Ryan and how he is always up for anything! This was my favorite part of the show and definitely puts Ryan in the running for an award.”

A fourth fan told Ryan that they actually don’t like the hug jumps because they look trashy.

“I hate the hug jumps! Looks so trashy! Its stuff like that makes the show look scripted or planned. Like every season before me did it so I need to….”

Another added, “That was hysterical but on the real show, it gets annoying.”

Grammy Award-winning singer, Harry Connick Jr., commented, “PTSD.” Ryan replied, “Nobody was harmed in the making of this hug jump.”

Zach Shallcross

Zach is the star of season 26 of The Bachelor and appeared on season 19 of The Bachelorette which featured Gabby Windey and Rachel Recchia. The Texas native was chosen as the next Bachelor at the Bachelorette season 19 special, After the Final Rose, which aired in September 2022.

At the time, Shallcross said, “There’s no words, I’m just taking this in right now. I’m obviously really nervous right now but this is once in a lifetime. I want to find my best friend, fall in love with my best friend, and really walk away with someone for the rest of my life.”

Bachelor Nation fans weren’t pleased with the announcement that Zach would be the next Bachelor.

Shallcross responded to the criticism in an interview with Us Weekly, “I would tell the critics and the fans, if you wanna watch something or this show and actually see love and no bullshit and not a scene or not an act, then I think you’re really gonna love this [season].” he continued, “If you are someone that wants the unnecessary dumb drama — alright, [but] I might not be your guy. Plain and simple. I know what I want out of this, and I know what it takes to have that healthy relationship.”

Zach told PEOPLE that in his season, “There’s no shortage of drama. Fans are going to see my full personality because I wear it on my sleeve. With last season, that necessarily wasn’t the case. I think I’m going to surprise some people with who I am.”
