How Kathy Hilton Reportedly Feels About Bravo Cutting Lisa Rinna from ‘RHOBH’
Kathy Hilton believes that her former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills co-star, Lisa Rinna, reaped what she sowed, according to a new report. Kathy was reportedly glad to see Rinna’s exit from the series amid a belief that she was used for a Season 12 storyline by the former soap opera actress.
Fans know that Kathy and Rinna clashed during a cast trip to Aspen, during which Rinna accused the cast “friend” of threatening to destroy her sister, Kyle Richards, while suffering what Rinna called a “psychotic break.”
“Kathy felt Lisa came after her last season to give herself a storyline, but it backfired big time,” an insider told Life & Style.
Rinna was hit with harsh backlash, as many fans believed that she had interfered in the relationship between Kyle and her sister. Her final season also featured a feud with Sutton Stracke, in addition to her blowout fight with Kathy. Incensed viewers almost booed Rinna off the stage during a BravoCon panel appearance, in October.
Kathy confirmed that she would not return for Season 13 if the same cast remained in place, namely Rinna and her sidekick, Erika Jayne, who had accused Kathy of using a slur during the Aspen trip.
“I had said that I would only be willing to come back if the cast, if it was completely the same, absolutely not, because I feel there are two bullies that intimidate a lot of the other girls,” Kathy said after Season 12 played out.
“They’re capable of anything,” she added.
Kathy later walked back the ultimatum, but Bravo ultimately made the decision to part ways with the controversial Bravo star.
“Kathy made it perfectly clear that she wasn’t planning on appearing on the show if Lisa stayed,” the source said. “Fans love Kathy and want to see more of her, so ditching Lisa was a no-brainer.”
Rinna coped with the death of her mother during filming season and cited her ongoing grief amid her messy behavior. Rinna often stirred up controversy in real-time on social media and was regularly slammed by fans for her online antics and/or dicey behavior on the show.
Rinna addressed her departure via a statement to PEOPLE.
“This is the longest job I have held in my 35 year career and I am grateful to everyone at Bravo and all those involved in the series,” she stated. “It has been a fun eight-year run and I am excited for what is to come!”
Kyle Richards reacted to the cast shakeup by posting a throwback video featuring Rinna and their co-star, Dorit Kemsley, spending time together in Provence, France.
Kyle said — “Lisa brought a lot to the show on her eight years of being on, and regardless of what happened last year – people have very strong feelings about what happened last year – regardless of that, she brought a lot to the show. And we had a lot of great times, and that’s what I’m choosing to think about and remember, even though that also makes me sad.”
“It’s very strange to think that she’s gone, and I’m not someone who likes change,” she added.
The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills is expected to kick off filming season this month.
