Crystal Kung Minkoff Believes Lisa Rinna Went TOO FAR In Kathy Hilton Feud

Lisa Rinna’s exit from The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills caught Crystal Kung Minkoff off guard, and she’s finally breaking her silence on the controversial departure.

While speaking to Page Six, Crystal opened up about the drama between Lisa Rinna and Kathy Hilton during season 12. She told the outlet, “It went a lot farther than I ever expected or wanted for anybody, but I was really surprised that Lisa left.”

Crystal acknowledged, however, that “Real Housewives is a revolving door, too. Many people that have been important have left and that gives room for other women to be on the show.”

Crystal joined RHOBH in 2021 after Teddi Mellencamp and Denise Richard’s exit.

Crystal is married to Hollywood director Rob Minkoff, who is known for legendary films like, “The Lion King” and “Stuart Little.” The couple have been married for 15 years, and shares two kids – Max and Zoe.

Despite Lisa’s exit from the reality show, Crystal said she is excited to return to The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills for season 13 to showcase more of her personality.

A few of Crystal’s friends and castmates have criticized her for not being herself when the cameras are on. She said in the interview, “I’m actually a really bubbly person, and I have a lot of fun.”

The Real Coco owner added, “Last season was so focused on the drama. The topics we talk about are pretty heavy. So, it’s hard to have fun in that environment. I’m not a performative person, so I’m not going to pretend to have fun. But if I do come back, I’d like to tap into my whole life.”

One of the “heavy” conversations the mother of two had during last season was about her relationship with food. During an episode of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, she talked with Erika Jayne about her eating disorder.

“People asked me why I didn’t fight back,” Crystal said. In the interview, Crystal also reflected on her decision to walk away during the confrontation and explained why she didn’t react the way fans expected her to.

“When something is so painful for you, some people fight back. But that’s not my reaction. I clam up, which is what people saw. I can’t fight someone on this topic. I’m already fighting enough internally, so I’m not going to fight someone to try to understand what I’m going through.”

Crystal said that, at the end of the day, her health is what matters the most. “My health and my recovery are key. Nothing else matters. The show doesn’t matter.”

Still, Crystal sheds light on the importance of her role as an Asian-American on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.

“It was extremely poignant for me to join the show. This was during the peak of anti-Asian hate crimes … what pushed me over the edge to saying yes was the opportunity to show my culture and my family in a positive way because it is a positive thing in my life — especially at a time that was so negative and polarizing for Asian Americans.”

The businesswoman says the response from fans proves she is making an impact being on the show.

“Asian women and young girls say, ‘I can’t believe you’re on RHOBH. I can’t believe I can see someone that looks like me.’ At the same time, you can’t represent every single person who’s Asian. We’re not a homogenized group.”

Crystal claims that she is a 76th descendant of Confucius, the famous Chinese Philosopher. Most notably, her father is buried in the Confucian cemetery, which is a great honor.

She spoke of her love for Lunar New Year traditions.

“One of the traditions is that you must clean your house before Chinese New Year. It’s like our spring cleaning. On Chinese New Year, you can’t take anything out of your house, not even your trash. You can’t cut your hair because you’re cutting off your fortune. You can’t even wash your hair that day because you’re washing your fortune away. So, you prepare before.”
