‘The View’ Interrupted Live Broadcast To Make Shocking Announcement
Thursday’s live airing of The View didn’t go as planned when it was interrupted by shocking breaking news.
The episode of The View began with the Hot Topics segment where the ladies discussed New York Rep George Santos. Shortly into their conversation, an ABC Special Report cut the show. The ABC reporter stated that Alec Baldwin was charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter for shooting and killing Halyna Hutchins. The 2021 incident happened on the set of the movie Rust when Alec shot a prop gun that had live rounds.
Despite the tragic news, many fans didn’t appreciate the interruption.
One fan said on Twitter, “I thought the interruption was going to be about something that affects us like reaching debt ceiling. Instead it was a story that could have waited until the end of a regular newscast.”
Another added, “I tuned in for The View not Alex [sic] Baldwin. Dang! What’s with ABC? Get off our show.”
A third fan said, “Not important enough to break into a show for more than 2 minutes! This is absurd.”
Viewers were even more furious when, following the interruption, the network didn’t cut back to the show. Instead, the show went to commercials.
A fan asked, “How do we find out what we missed?”
Other viewers reacted to Alec’s new charges, saying it was about time the actor was charged.
One viewer said, “About time. Thought #AlecBaldwin was getting away without even a trial. There were too many issues with the whole production, Health&Safety and the set also.”
Alec Baldwin’s lawyer responded to the charges and said his client would fight them.
“This decision distorts Halyna Hutchins’ tragic death and represents a terrible miscarriage of justice,” Baldwin’s lawyer,Luke Nikas of Quinn Emanuel, said. He continued, “Mr. Baldwin had no reason to believe there was a live bullet in the gun — or anywhere on the movie set. He relied on the professionals with whom he worked, who assured him the gun did not have live rounds. We will fight these charges, and we will win.”
In another statement, District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies insisted that no one will be above the law during her watch.
“After a thorough review of the evidence and the laws of the state of New Mexico, I have determined that there is sufficient evidence to file criminal charges against Alec Baldwin and other members of the Rust film crew. On my watch, no one is above the law, and everyone deserves justice.”
Some of Baldwin’s fans agree with his legal team and don’t think the actor should be charged for something he had no control over.
One viewer said, “Alec Baldwin shouldn’t face criminal charges. It was an accident caused by the 12 people that had the gun before him. He was told it was a cold gun.”
However, another viewer argued, “Apart from the responsibility of actors for checking a weapon, what f—king HUMAN would point a gun at someone and pull the trigger without knowing first hand whether it has a live.”
Thursday’s show was far from perfect. Fans also weren’t happy that Bachelorette‘s Rachel Lindsay was filling in for two other co-hosts. At the show’s start, Joy Behar announced that Whoopi Goldberg and Sunny Hostin were off that day but didn’t reveal why.
One upset fan said, “No Sunny and no Whoopi today?”
Another viewer insisted they would switch off their television if Sunny and Whoopi weren’t on the show.
